I would be interested somewhere in Missouri. The state is really rugged up north, Merrimack caverns, for example, was a hangout for the outlaw Jesse James. Then the south part has Table Rock Lake, Branson, Fantastic Caverns, camping, etc. It would be centrally located to all. Branson would also have lots to offer as would a side trip to Eureka Springs, AR. which offers a pretty unique experience.

Missouri also has Mark Twain lake area which I've heard is very nice.
