Have you been coast to coast? what is the farthest you have been? I am yearning to hook her up and drive from MD to Seattle and back alone. Needless to say it sounds like to much. would you do it?

I have driven to Colorado and back by myself minus the r-pod. Yes I would do it by myself. I travel by myself all the time as I am typing this in my r-pod in St Augustine Florida again by myself with my dog Stone of course.
Love to travel with my Beachpod!

I have travelled across the states numerous times. Sometimes hard driving and sometimes leisurely. (I have done 3 days between Alabama and Washington twice but more often averaged 4 days. One trip I put 6,000 miles on my car to go from Conneticut to Washington. I took 3 weeks for that trip.) None of my solo long drives involved towing though. We did buy our pod in Ohio and towed it back to Washington last summer however. When we stopped just for the night we stopped at a Wal-mart or truck stop (Travel America I think).
With hard driving you could probably make the trip in 4 days or less solo. It won't be any fun to do it though. With the lower gas mileage you will be stopping more so your average speed will be lower. Also I know I notice the discomfort from driving long distances much more in 40's than I did in my 20's.
Perhaps you could fly one of your daughters east to make the trip back with you, take it a comfortable pace and just enjoy the trip. The tacoma will handle the hills just fine so you don't need to worry about that.
Hope this helps
bob

thanks for the input. I have driven up and down the west coast many times in my 20's not towing. The road does get long.

My husband and I drove from coast to coast last fall before we could take our pod. We went at a leisurely pace as we wanted to see the national parks. We took 5 weeks. I Sooo can't wait to get enough time off to do it again this time with our pod and at an even slower pace. I would do it in a heartbeat. Good Luck and go for it!

These trips sound wonderful, especially yours, Heidi!
One of our dreams is to take the Podcaster and follow the fall colors from New England down as far as they turn...Ky? Tenn?

The DW and I travelled from Charlotte, NC to Seattle, WA and back two summers ago. Then we owned an 8ft pop-up. We camped a total of 22 nights on that trip. Put about 7500 miles on the camper, more on the truck. We had a blast. We are planning on doing the same again next summer. (We are both teachers) Rob |

Hello west-coasties, do you think the last week in september would be too late weather wise to head east from Seattle. How about heading south to the grand canyon then east mid Oct? Thanks
