I swapped out the stock smoke detector with one that has a pause feature - push the button once and it pauses for 7 minutes and then resets itself - total cost $12
I'm with outbound on the stock microwave - its made for that spot - no wasted space, its secure and it serves two functions (heating and cooking). If you get a microwave and a toaster oven, now you have to secure both and you'll be taking up valuable counter space for the second item.
I like the R-dome and have no problem putting it up.
My (almost at par) 2 cents

takeabreath3, I have two
questions for you:
When you take delivery of your R-Pod have you been warned before you get there that the microwave was not in it? Which dealer have you made business with? Thanks |

I agree with others who recomended the micro-convection oven it is a great convenience. The R-dome is good to have but as butterfly lee has said do not leave it up if you will be leaving the camper for long periods of time. High winds could Knock it down and damage it and the sun will damage the fabric in time. When setting the R-dome up check the tracks sometimes the screws holding the track in place will be sticking out and catch the awning being fed into the track. The ends of the track can be sharp and tare the track too. If you have a small file or sandpaper you can easily fix the ends of the track the screws you may be able to tighten or file. The last thing would be lubricant for the track. David and Danette

Hey Judy great to see another Texan on here. Where is New York, Texas? Have you been to the Texas Motor Speedway? I just live about 5 miles from there. It's a great Racetrack.
Enjoy your "POD"

oh you guys are the BEST....thanks for all the tips.
1. i'm getting the mico/conv combo! with all the tips it sounds like the only thing to do!
2. i got my camper from RV-MAX in whitesboro. no they did not tell me that the micro or tv or the r dome was either not there or messed up! of course until i got there! it was my choice to opt out of the micro and tv...but i also got $1000 knocked off the price for the 2. the new r dome is due in on friday and they are shipping it direct to me at the job.
3. oh not to worry about leaving the dome extended while i'm at the job. been there and did that with the pop up and oh it did cost me big time! lol but i would like to use it during the weekends when i will be around most of the time. glad to here that a 5'2" gal can put it up without much hassle! of course i have a full 2 more inches on you!! i picked up the 2 step ladder tonight. so i'm set in that department.
4. new york texas is about 100 south east of dallas, down around tyler. i have not been to TMS!! the texas races always seem to be at the wrong time of the year for me. to close to the dega race!! and i love my dega race! i go to that one both spring and fall.
again, thanks everyone you are the best at helping out the rookies!
peace and love, judy

We passed on the microwave/convection to save $ and use that space for food storage.
I had been thinking about a toaster oven, but two weeks ago at Costco, we saw an oven/stove combo that looked interesting. After checking it out on the internets, we went back and bought one! Yes, it will be used outside, but I think it'll be nice especially in the summer when it might be too hot to cook indoors. We'll be trying it out on our next outing in 2 weeks. Here's a link (FYI, it was about 1/2 the cost at Costco): http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/camp-chef-portable-outdoor-stove-top-oven.aspx?a=421617 |

We opted for the toaster oven. We have a folding aluminum table that we use for the outside kitchen. It's perfectly sized to hold the Coleman stove, toaster oven and Mr. Coffee 5-cup. The grill sits just outside the R-Dome.
I love my biscuits in the morning, but I've done them in the charcoal grill in the past. Just thought the TO would be a nice break. 'Sides - it's pretty inexpensive. All I have to do now is dive out the door in the morning, hit the coffee button and start cooking.

I also travel alone and I put the r-dome up by myself. Love it!!!!!!!!!! Give it a try. I use the folding step to reach the middle rail. |

Judy, I'm also 5'2" and use a lightweight 4 ft. stepladder to put the dome up. I usually put it up by myself unless there is a hunk around that thinks I can't. In that case, hey, I'm not stupid, and usually let them be macho. It's good for their ego.

Hey Tink, I love it! The next time I go out, my Dome is going up. I did not put it up the last 2 trips because it was so windy and I did not want it to get home before I did............
