Mine has the 2.7 liter V6 and no tranny cooler. No problems so far.

Our Ford Escape has been a great tow vehicle for our 172. We are toll averse, so after having spent $20+ through Ohio, we set the GPS to avoid toll roads. Big mistake! Especialy when driving through West Virginia! We were happily driving down I-77 when the GPS re-routed us to a small highway through the scenic mountains of WV.
Unfortunately for us, it was not very scenic. It was about 1am, so it was dark, and we couldn't see anything. It was also foggy to boot! We were driving on a one lane VERY winding road. It was very nerve wrecking. I don't know which was was more scary - ascending or descending the mountain. We added at least an hour and a half to our trip.
Mountain driving - not a good experince when driving through WV in the middle of the night.
Happy to report that the Escape performed well, and safely got us off the mountain.
Needles to say, we have decided to NEVER set the GPS to "avoid tolls". Advice: Don't try to
save money on tolls, or think you will have a lovely "blue highway" experience. From now on
we will just suck it up and pay the darn tolls.

Towing Pod Urban 8 adds 15 cents per mile in gasoline costs. A straight toll road probably saves money.

I still have one set of blue vinyl lettering from my old boat. I called it "Ten forward". Maybe I should put it on the R-pod. 100 points if anyone knows what the name refers to.
