Dallas and back to SC- our Campground experiences Night 1: Toomsuba, MS. KOA- This was a nice start to our trip. Just to the east of Meridian and in the country. Everything was clean. Enjoyed the pool and the staff was helpful. Price was good, too. Night 2: Nacogdoches, TX- Learned the hard way not to trust the websites. We planned on staying at Pineywoods Campground which was out of business…and the abandoned site showed no signs of every being wooded. We headed back toward Dallas thinking we might have to drive all night but found a sign about 15 miles out of town for Tonkawa Springs. If you like rustic this is it! There was an old fashion swimming hole and pet deer wandering around. We were thankful they had a spot since they had a lot of people who were there for a t-ball tournament. Down side was the sand and the fact lots of people were living there permanently. Nights 3, 4, 5, 6: Carrolton, TX- Sandy Lake Care Free Campground. This was near the hotel in Addison where we met for a family reunion which is why we booked here. We were given a site with no shade and the temperature was over 100 everyday and not much below at night. Again, lots of permanent residents. I don’t recommend this one and don’t think I would stay there again…of course I never plan to go to Dallas again either! Nights 7, 8, 9: San Antonio, TX-Anther Care Free Campground but what a difference!!! Direct shot into town ---we used the bus route which ran just in front of the park. On the Mission Trail. Everything was nice here and they gave us a space with some shade. This is a great rv facility! Nights 10 &11: San Leon, TX-Bay RV Park , we wanted to be near Galveston ---after the fact this was a better place to be –than closer to the city. We were near the Space Center and the Battleship Texas and the little town of Baycliff which had everything we needed and nice places to eat…try Cliff by the Sea Diner if you are ever there. Down side all back ins so out came the wheel and it was hot…the bath house and laundry lacked ac. But the owners Tina and Paul aim to please…and at $25 a night it was fine. Night 12: Baton Rouge, LA-KOA. This was a little too much like Disney World- had pool and good amenities but lots of kids and at $45 seemed steep…rather far out of town…I would use it again. Night 13: Pine Mountain, GA-Pine Mountain Rv Resort- here you have a choice of cable/paved or no cable/gravel lots…we went with the latter – at $35 rather than $50!!! But good location- pool and facilities…guess we are in tourist country- near Warm Springs and Little White House…motels are more expensive her too. Well- now it is time to go home and sleep in a real bed! |
