Our area is having a great problem with the Emerald Ash Borer. It is illegal to transport wood from certain counties in Kentucky. It is killing the Ash trees very rapidly. We NEVER transport wood from our home.

Boy do we know about this!
We had firewood confiscated by the ranger when we brought some leftover from a previous camping trip just a county away from where we were going to camp. Taller Half was honest when they asked if we had wood and they brought out a Haz-Mat team (really just a big plastic bag) and took it away. They said we could burn kiln dried wood from anywhere but other than that, only what they sold in the park...serious business!

Same in NY, I think everyone is trying to be very careful to preserve the forests throughout the US. I'm fine with buying wood locally and supporting local economies and saves space weight and yuk in the pod and truck.

The fire wood ban is the same in NC, SC and Va. All places we've camped this year. Rob |

Its the same here...Now, My store sells wood wrapped and nationally certified..I would think that would be ok in most places...
We buy our wood from the store in the resort where our seasonal site is. I know there are other campers that bring in their own wood because its cheaper but we prefer to follow the rules and protect the trees in our area...

Michigan has been hit hard by the Emerald Ash Borer killing "All" the ash trees. Additionally, we are dealing with other invasive species such as Purple Loosestrife, Kudzu, garlic mustard, zebra muscles, autumn olive, Asian carp, and the European Starling to name just a few of the well known introduced species. The current and potential loss of biodiversity is devastating.

I can't stop dreaming about June 15, 2013 when we get to permanently escape in our "Escape Pod" which is a 176T towed by a Chevy van with a 5.7L engine.

Plus - now we've got an approximately 1 million gallon oil spill coming down the Kalamazoo River toward Lake Michigan.
The EAB has spread all over the lower peninsula of MI, so you can transport firewood anywhere within the lower peninsula as far as the DNR is concerned, although most campgrounds still have "rules" about bringing in outside firewood. The upper peninsula still has restrictions from county to county, and you absolutely cannot take any firewood over the Mackinac Bridge.
