We opted for an EZ Up rather then the R-dome. It just seemed like a lot of work for a night or two. The EZ Up goes up in seconds and you can get a screen to go around it to keep the bugs out. Just another option for you.

Hello Creg,
Thank you for your detailed information about the dome. The one we are thinking about it is 175 with dome.

Hi Chieko,
We just returned from our first weekend trip with our 173. I short, the answer to your question is yes. The R-dome is easy to erect.
We set it up one weekend in the driveway, but did not install the skirt that goes into the lower track. We also did not install any test stakes. Just setting up the dome took about ten minutes for the two of us. Tools we used were 1) silicon spray for the tracks and 2) a step stool, as this helps when sliding the dome into the upper track and also allows you to handle the center aluminum rod more easily.
Installation went in this order:
1) install dome into the upper track.
2) install aluminum rods on track face.
3) install jointed rod into the dome face.
4) connect the aluminum rods to the jointed rod and snap them in place.
5) attach the end of the jointed rod into the grommets on corners of dome face. The long strap can now be adjusted to allow the main door zipper to operate smoothly.
6) install the skirt and tent stakes.
When setting it up at our camp site last Friday, all went smoothly as it had in our driveway. Tent stakes were pounded in easily using a rubber mallet. The lower skirt went in smoothly, although the axle and installed step don't seem to have been accounted for in the design. We got around the step interference by using our step stool in place of the installed step. The axle requires that the screen be cut so it will go around the axle. Also, there is no way to attach the screen to the Rdome. The best we could do for the time was try to keep the gaps to a minimum.
We camped in an area that had lots of recent rain and standing water was only a few feet from our site. Mosquitos awaited our arrival. A huge bloom of mosquitos surrounded the Murano and R-Pod as we backed the trailer into the pad site. A liberal application of bug spray kept them off of us, and we used a large citronella candle to try to deter them inside the R-dome. We spent the evening comfortably inside the dome with no mosquitos. The following morning, a lot of bugs found their way into the dome. After we cleared them out and relit the citronella candle, the mosquitos stayed away for the second evening. The enhancements we need to make will be to attach the screen to the dome and cut the screen to accomodate the axle. Velcro will be part of the solution.
Above comments aside, the R-dome is the best thing to have on the Rpod. If you feel that the confines of the trailer are a little cozy, the extra room provided by the Rdome is terrific. We had rain off & on during the weekend and it didn't leak. The extra space was where we had our meals when it was too buggy outside. Overall, I'm glad we got it.

Hi All,
I have a question about the R-dome dimensions. We just installed our on our model 173 and the fit is not so great around the windows. We remember the person at the dealer that was installing the grommet studs had a problem with the template. It seemed strange that it had him installing the grommet studs where the windows are.
The good new is that the R-dome went up in about 10 minutes with my wife & I doing it unassisted for the first time. The bad news is that we pulled out one grommet stud that was causing us to pull the material too tightly to attach the grommet to the side of the Rpod. It was about 1/4" too far for optimal attachment of the dome.
The more we loooked, the more the R-dome didn't look right. Upon measuring the dome's floor dimensions, the tale of the tape is this: Measuring from the door of the Rpod to the entrance of the R-dome was close to 9 feet with the extension rods taught. The other floor dimension, running the length of the Rpod was 10 feet. From an earlier post, this sounds like we may have the R-dome that is meant to go with for the 151/152 series. For what it's worth, our dome is blue. I don't know if the two sizes come in different colors.
We searched the Forest River web page, but there is no mention of dimensions, or if there is a different R-dome for the 150 and the 170 series Rpods.
Could someone please tell me what the dimensions are for their 170 series R-dome? I'd like to have some information before I talk to the dealer.
Thanks for your assistance
Craig

We picked up our 171 on Saturday and the dealer had the dome tent set up for us. They made us take it down in order to 'teach' us the ropes. Was fairly easy, yet did require two sets of hands. Also the dealer recommended that you purchase silicone spray to 'lube' the tent through the receiving brackets on the body of the RPOD. We have not done this yet so cannot attest to the value of the advice. Still, the tent was awesome. It can be completely closed in to provide rain/privacy cover or, as pictured, completely open for air. We are taking our maiden voyage this weekend to Door County Wisconsin....can't wait.
