We've done the heater in the cold with our dome, but so far the heat always seems to be unbearable when there is no shore power. we have experienced 3" per hour rain and stayed dry - except with some spritzing when a drop seems to hit really hard; we had to push 2-3 inches of snow of the top and still been cozy.
We found that the risers do present a bit of a height problem and cause some funny distortion in the sides of the dome. To level out the dome, I took two 8-10" peices of PT 4x4 and glued them to gether with a 1x spline and then drilled a 1/4" hole in the center. I also drilled a 3/8" hole in one corner to use with a tent stake to anchor them in the wind or sand. the 3 1/2" height is just about the same as the risers and the result is a much better aligned dome that looks neater.
I also did the mod that was shown with a aluminum dowel on the end of the spline. My home centers didn't have any Al dowel of the size, so used two lengths of 1/8 x 3/4" flat bar, rounded the ends with a file and drilled three holes - two to fasten to the spline and one to run a piece of cord through. Now with a gentle push of the far end, I can pull the spline across in about 30 seconds and have the dome up in minutes.
We also applied 2" wide industrial sticky back hook and loop fastener to the end flaps to fasten to the sides, instead of snaps or suction cups. the sticky back hooks on the pod work fine, but we have to sew the loop side to the tent - a big job - we believe we will have to use non-sticky loop side to avoid gumming up the sewing machine. More and som photos when that is done.
