Finally decided to purchase a new 171 today. Went to our local dealer and gave them a deposit. We will be getting a new 2013 Rpod 171 at the end of April, beginning of May. Now looking thru all our old camping gear and trying to find out where we need to fill in. Really looking forward to our first camp with the new trailer. Now have to decide where to go for it's maiden voyage. We're here in Portland so will stay kind of close to see what we forgot. Anyway, can now officially join this wonderful group. Since Sept. of last year I have been doing lots of reading of posts on both websites and have already purchased a number of items that were recommended. Thanks all, for your great suggestions.

Congratulations. We really love our 171 and wouldn't trade it for any other model. It's like it was made just for us. We've been all over in it and feel that we've only just begun. I hope you enjoy yours as much as we have ours.
As far as that purchasing goes - Don't worry about it. Wherever you go there's a Wal-Mart or Camper's World nearby. It's half the fun of podding, trying to decide what you want to do to your pod to make it more "you" as you go along. And you'll find that you weed out a lot of things as you go along too. We were tent campers and on our first trip out with the pod I hauled along all our tarps and ropes. I laugh at some of the things we did at first.

Thank you all for your good wishes and am looking thru local locations for a maiden voyage. As time and ability permits will add photos of our trips. Always interesting to see where other podders head for and the locales. We had a trailer that we sold when we relocated from L.A. about 20 years ago. Our sons had reached the age where they no longer fit in the bunk beds, and camping was not of interest to them anymore. So have lots of gear left. Have to stock up on mantles for our old Coleman lanterns. Interesting that now our sons who have reached their 30's are now camping on their own. Guess we did something right. Will peruse our local Camping World and see what we absolutely must have. Also Costco is on our list. As we get closer to delivery will purchase a mattress from Amazon.

Welcome to the world of podding around. We also have a 171. I can remember how excited we were to finally take it away and go camping! We think it fits the two of us extremely well. We have added a number of touches to make it our own. It is a good plan to get that new mattress, a good night's sleep is so important. I was hoping that the new ones would have better mattresses, but I guess not?
We are counting the days for the campgrounds to open up around here. For many it is May 15th, so the wait is on......

Well they now offer a better mattress as an extra. Having read many posts since Sept. we also added dual lp tanks with auto/change over and a Optima D27M battery. Also have a longer sewer pipe holder and a Bal swingdown jack with a wheel to better spot it at home. As someone else said the tough part is now awaiting delivery. Will be here soon enough. Have been scouring the camping guides for somewhere to take her on her maiden voyage. Gotta see what we forgot to pack. And then away we go. Really excited.
