Has anyone taken their r-pod to Peninsula State Park, Door County, Wisconsin? Curious as to what campground is the most desirable!!!!!!

We have stayed at Peninsula SP and it is a beautiful park.  You shouldn't have any problems with the rPod.  Last spring when we stayed there, we stayed at the South Nicolet in site 721E right next to the bathhouse, which are private individual showers.  It is a nice area.   Anything close to the water be prepared for cooler and windy sites.  Especially if you plan to go in spring or fall.

Another nice campground, but further north, is Wagon Trail Campground. http://www.wagontrailcampground.com/  It is located on the Lake Michigan side.  We have stayed there many times. If you want to be away from the crowds and tourist traps, I would recommend them.  They have a very nice bathhouse and the sites are bigger and more secluded then any of the other private campgrounds around.  Don't miss out on Grandma's Kitchen just up the road.  To drive to the "tourist" traps, it is only a short drive of about 20 minutes.

If you are passing through Wisconsin Dells, another beautiful area, let us know.

Thank you so much. We were looking last evening at the Wagon Trail website. It looked good, but it is nice to hear from someone who has been there. Restaurant recommendations are nice also! I would love to stay in the state park, but we don't have our dates exactly yet. Should have by next week!

Al Johnsons is another restaurant that is a MUST DO.  http://www.aljohnsons.com/  Especially for breakfast.  They are always busy.  Worth the wait.

Fish boils are also very popular.  Pelletier’s Restaurant in Fish Creek is always busy.  Fish boils isn't our favorite, but lots of people wait a long time for them.

Wilson's in Ephraim is also another popular place known for their ice cream.

Fish Creek (the most popular), Ephraim, Sister Bay and Egg Harbor are quaint little towns (aka tourist traps), each with their own attractions.  There isn't much on the Lake Michigan side, other than peace and quite.  Door Bluff Co. Park is a nice stop to just sit back and enjoy the view.  We love driving to the very tip.  Washington Island is very nice too.  We only went there once a long time ago.  We took our bikes there and didn't have much time to check it all out.  They do allow vehicles on the island.

For people who love Christmas, stopping at Tannenbaum's just north of Sister Bay, is a must do.

You can't get lost if you decide to take a road off the beaten track.  Just head West and you'll end up back on Hwy 42.  I think we have been on every single road in Door County.

Wisconsin has more to offer then just Door County.  Northern Wisconsin from Wisconsin Dells, is just beautiful.  We did a tour of State Parks last June with water falls, and we were surprised at how beautiful it was.  We have lived in Wisconsin all our lives, and never new they existed.

Yizit,
It is so good to "see" you again. I never see a Roadtrek that I don't think about you and wonder how you're doing.

So nice to be remembered.  Thank you.  Once in a while I sneak a peak to see what's happening.  I had gotten a PM the other day and responded, then saw this post.

We are doing great.  Enjoying our "Roada" every time we take her out.  We have taken several long trips: Grand Canyon, Brice Canyon, Zion Canyon, Mesa Verde, Arches, Devils Tower, Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, Vegas, FL, to name a few, and anything in between. We have been enjoying seeing this beautiful country.  So many more places to see.  With the gas prices, we have slowed down a bit.  We still can't just sit around, so we replaced our desire to travel with staying closer to home.  Last spring we enjoy our tour to Northern WI.  This spring we'll be visiting friends we met in FL, who live in NC.  Plan on driving the Blue Ridge Parkway.  We drove the Natchez Trace last year on our way to FL.  If you haven't taken that, we highly recommend it.  It was a relaxing and beautiful drive.  Speed limit 50 MPH and no stop lights or stop signs for 440 miles.  We were suppose to be in TX right now, but we both had been sick for most of January while in FL, so we came home.  We made the mistake of going to FL 3 years ago in January.  No more WI winters for us...LOL  Now we wish we would have gone onto TX.

As much as we loved our rPod, we have no regrets making the decision to see the country in our Roadtrek.  We have met other "Trekkers" during our travels and on forums.  We met a couple a few weeks ago in FL, camped right next to us, who were traveling in their new (2013) 6 week old rPod.  They were not members of this site, but I did mention it to them.  We were both impressed with our "home away from home".

Enjoying retirement and seeing this beautiful country.

Glad you're having fun. We've been doing pretty much the same thing. We can't stay home long before getting "hitch itch". With the cost of gas, we're going to be broke real soon. We've told the kids not to expect anything when we go. Too much to see out there and we've enjoyed every minute.

Funny you mentioning Natchez Trace. I had the web site open just before I read your post. That is a definite for a future trip. Maybe we'll meet up one day.

That would be nice.  We are members of Boondockers Welcome (http://www.boondockerswelcome.com/) for anyone looking for a place to stop while traveling in our area.  We are listed under Dells4fun.  The Dells is not just for kids.

Happy and safe travels.

@Yizit. We are going to the F.R.O.G. rally in August and may head up your direction after it is over. I may get in touch with you concerning things to do and see. Glad that you are able to travel like you have been traveling. Nothing like it.
