DonkeyPod first trip for 2013

   Haveing just returned from our first trip for the year... We drove 3,033 miles on this trip... First stop was Little rock Ar. Then to hurricane mills Tn to see loretta lynn ranch... From there to the Natche sTrace which we drove over just some of it.... Then to rock city in Tn and to see some of the civil war battle grounds... after that we headed to cherokee  N.C.   The day we drove over the Smokey Mt Nat Park we had hard rain... Did not bother our trip as it happened on our way back over the Mt. Our next stop was in Corbin Ky.. After setting up the Pod, we went down town to eat at Sanders cafe.. That is where KFC was started by the Col. Also while there in Corbin we drove over to see cluberland falls.... From there we headed to shepherdville Ky which is near Louisville Ky.While there we saw George Pattern museum and saw Ft Know where all of our I O U are kept... Another day we went to bardstown to see all the histortic things to see there. Main place was Old Talbott Traven  where we had a nice meal... We also took in some churches and the 1792 distillery...Next was to Paducah Ky and the land between the lakes... Getting close to the end of the tyrip was to Eureka springs AR... Took a day trip to bentonville AR. to see the crystal bridge.. Museum of Art(personal collection of a wal-mart owner...After that we headed downtown to the Wal-mart Vistor center... More of a museum to Sam Walton....All in all we saw alot of our country while traveling....Next trip will be in July to colo with the grandkids....I did get to fish some and just lay around... We stay at K O A,s when we camp...

	Sounds like you had a great trip. We have visited some of the same areas in past years, and the more we see, the more we enjoy. Earlier this month we returned from a 6,000 mile trip from Florida to Memphis, then to Texas and on to Las Vegas. Unfortunately, we took this trip primarily to visit family that we have not seen for years, so we pretty much stayed on the beaten paths, although we always enjoy some of the few remaining towns on old Route 66. You mentioned KOA campgrounds. We stayed at those most of the time up until the mid 90's. The prices were steadily increasing, so we joined Passport America. PPA offers members 50% off the normal camping fees at their member campgrounds throughout the states and Canada. It only takes 2 or 3 nights at the campgrounds to recover your membership fees for a year. We stayed at several in New Mexico, sometimes as low as $11.00 per night with full hookups. I am only mentioned PPA because many people new to camping don't know it exists. You do have to be selective on where you stay. We always check the AAA campground book for ratings because some of the campgrounds leave much to be desired.
