We are trying to add a tongue mounted bike rack that will hold 2-4 mountain bikes on our Rpod 177. Putting a bigger hitch mount to a 2" vs 1 1/4 that's on it now will cause too much weight on the back with our current Yakima hold-up.

Has anyone done this mod, if so pictures. Can those even be done? If something we can't do we might have to put it up for sale.

There is a thread on the other forum that talks about this. One brand that is very nice and will accommodate up the four bikes is an Avrika rack, made in Canada. It can be very expensive, but it's the only one I've seen out there. My dad does welding, and he was able to fabricate a rack that bolts onto the tongue and will accept our Yakima rails. We can mount two bikes onto it. There are pictures of our rack as well as the Avrika rack on this thread.

We purchased the Arvika rack and we do not regret the expense. We purchased a 2" receiver adaptor for the rack so we can put it on the car or TV. That allows us to put the rack on the TV and take day trips with the bikes on the back. The rack on the Pod also provides a great place to store the bikes in the winter. We have friends that are avid bikers and they said that they have never seen a more user and bike friendly rack. Spring is coming!!

They break into two parts and nest so they can go in the back storage area. The wheel chocks go in them during travel.

Doesn't the tongue mounted rack and bikes add too much weight on the tongue?

Our two bikes have a combined weight of 90 Lbs.
