After 5 years of trouble service with my RP-171, I decided to trade up to a 2015 RP-179.  This is my 75th birthday present to myself!   I take delivery on the 22nd.  My dealer is Kroubetz Lakeside Campers in Lake Crystal MN.  I like the small town dealers.  Very nice folks.  I plan on using it for more extended stays taking it south next winter.

I took delivery 0f my 179 on Apr 20.  I took it on a 4 day trip to a state park about 100 miles away.  It tows very well even in the rain and wind.  The fit and finish are good, all the equipment worked well and the floor plan, storage in the interior are very workable.  The slide out really adds to the livable space.  I am very happy with my trade up from a 2010 171.  The temperature range 22 to 70, and the heater did a great job.  The heater is located under the bed and is much quieter than in my 171.  The new air conditioner is also quieter and the roof doesn't have the drumming sound.  The unit has good natural light, but it would be nice to have a window in the door.  I like the kitchen in the back end.  I had the dealer install the factory lift kit before delivery and highly recommend having this done to avoid scraping anything.   Dislikes:  the TV is mounted way too high for viewing from the bed.  I'm going to lower it down as the cables are long enough.  The Jensen radio/dvd/cd player is mounted very high up and it's difficult to read the display.  It works well however.  The speakers in the ceiling are  tinny sounding. I would like to see a rotatable antenna.  The mattress is slightly better than the one that came in the 171.  It has to go in favor of an innerspring one.  The build date for the unit was early March 2015.
I am pleased with the unit and feel it will be comfortable for longer stays.

Update on my 179.   I have parked the 179 at the family lake cottage and have been staying in it for a couple of weeks.  I replaced the mattress with an innerspring, a huge improvement.  I like the LED lighting, but installed a florescent strip above the window in the bed area for reading.   The TV flat screen was lowered about 18 inches which provides for better viewing.  All systems are working fine.  The kitchen layout in the back works out well.  I've been taking covers off, looking under drawers etc. to see how the plumbing and electrical are run.  I've seen several comments on here that the floors are not insulated.  I checked at a opening for the plumbing in the upper floor and found 2 inches of hard foam insulation.  It appears that it is insulated except for the channels for the plumbing and electrical.   I found a few small trim flaws, but the overall workmanship is good in this price range. I would think that the heater under the bed could have been ducted better and a access panel provided under the bed over the water heater and pump.  I hope my comments are helpful

I just was on a short trip to a State park in Wisconsin.  While there I had 3 couples who wanted a tour.  It's fun with the 100's of makes an models of RV's out there, to have the interest by folks in the pod.  I always enjoy Meeting folks and get a kick out of giving the tour.  Everything worked perfectly.

I replaced the roof speakers with a pair of 6 3/4 Pioneer 3 ways.  I used the template to cut a pair of 3/4 inch plywood rings, painted them white and used self taping screws to hold things up.  They are a great improvement over the stock. I also put some fiberglass above the speakers when I installed them.

We just purchased a 2016 R-pod 179.  We would also like to lower the tv as it is too high for comfortable viewing.  Could you give more details on how you did this?  Is there any wiring in the wall to be concerned about?  What type of screws or fasteners did you use?  Were you able to locate and screw into a stud or did you use hollow wall anchors?  The pod came with a 19" tv.  We would like to replace it with a slightly larger one about 24".  Do you think the wall is sturdy enough for the extra weight?  What else to I need to take into consideration before doing this?  Thanks in advance for any advice.

FYI,
If you haven't solved your TV issue, I bought one of these. It takes a little bit of modification and drilling but the mount itself matches the hole on the TV. It tilts enough to watch in bed or at the dining table. A very cheap fix.

Texas Podder, Does that replace the current mount in the 2016 179? If so, does it have the swing out arm or is stationary with a pivoting head?

I am getting ready to upgrade to a 24inch smart TV in my new 179, and have been struggling with keeping the existing mount, but lowering it, or going with a whole new mount that pivots we can watch when laying down.

Thanks!
