I thought this would be a simple add-on - no.
This is for the Jensen AWM968. It has three paired output speakers. Speaker A inside; Speaker B, outside; and Speaker C is not hooked up. So I thought putting in a headphone jack would be straight forward without any issues. But I found out that the wiring is a bit different from most other stereos. I purchased a 1/4" headphone jack from Radio Shack. Drilled a 3/8" hole through the video out plate. I mounted the jack to the plate and soldered two-sets of speaker wires, about two-feet long each, to the jack and connected these wires to the wires leading out of the Jensen for Speaker set C: Left channel to the tip (C_L+) Right channel to the mid-contact (C_R+) Ground (base) to the (C_R-) Do not connect the jack base to C_L- Normally one does this, but not on this unit. It causes a short circuit. Tape it closed and place it out of the way. Now I can watch cheesy movies with the headphones while my wife sleeps... John Spokane |
