Not sure how a tire melts, but simple answer is the spare is full size and can be used.  I would ensure I got a tire replacement ASAP, you have seen how important a spare is.

In the middle of our 3 week, 4500 mile plus trip in our Rpod 179. One of the tires mettled, had a new one put on, had the guy put the spare on the other side to match the "new" tread, as they only had one new tire in stock.
Can I ride on the spare till it goes .... It is a regular full sized tire ???? !!!

Thanks for any advice
