I have not been on the forum for some time now.  My wife and I have a 2016 Pod 172 that we have very much enjoyed.  In May of last year, my wife was diagnosed with ALS.  She is now on an electric scooter for mobility.  My question:  How much weight will the receiver hitch on the rear of the Pod safely hold and tow.  I am looking at getting a receiver hitch carrier for the scooter, but I need to know how much weight it will safely handle.  Also, any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
We are beginning what is going to be a tough journey.  But we are bound and determined to do as much as we can for as long as we can.

Thank you in advance for any responses.

Not sure what scooter weighs but the rear receiver hitch is not rated for much.  Seems to me the number 150lbs rings a bell, but I wouldn't go beyond 100 if you look at the way it is attached.

a couple of things/thoughts..

1) the rear hitch is only rated to 125 or 150 lbs, depending on model year. Pretty sure any mobility scooters are going to be above that, before you add in a rack strong enough to hold them..

2) since this is going to be a very important item for your wife, I would highly suggest carrying it where it is protected and secure from loss, theft, weather etc.

3) consider a tow vehicle change if needed, one that can carry the scooter inside, or on a front end mount.

4) it's possible a complete equipment change is needed, since she may need more space to move around when inside, larger bathroom, etc.

5) sorry to hear of the diagnosis, hope you are able to keep positive and enjoy for a long time to come.

Thanks for your input.  I agree, after looking at the hitch on the pod, I would not even consider trying to haul a scooter or wheelchair on it.  Don't know what we will do as of yet.  May be time to let the camper go, stay close to home and manage her illness as best we can.  This is not going to be a pleasant journey.

Thanks for all of your input...
