The answer to the "hold the door up problem " is found at

http://www.defender.com/product2.jsp?path=-1|619045|619418&id=1027665

They have two sizes 8" and 10" extended and are on sale for $2 and $3 respectively.  Closeout applies so if you want them you might want to act now.  They have a minimum order of $25 but I needed some other stuff so that was OK.  I ordered 2-8" and 2-10".

Yes,  Sandpiper, that is what we also ended up doing.   My husband put it in yesterday.   I am now happy.   Now if I could just get it to stop raining so I could go camping this weekend.

Mrs.' Piper was quite happy with the fix and therefore so was I.   It sure makes getting things out of and putting things in the overhead storage.  I hope the rain stops for you folks too.  We were lucky and got to spend a little over a week in our 177 before we had to put it away for the winter.  But it can still travel south if we so desire.

Now if only I could find one that would work with the 175's overhead cabinets. Too bad that these will not.

I was WONDERING if the overhead cabinets are the same in the 174/175 as in the 177. Looks like Brin said it worked but gepaine said it didn't.

When someone gets something to work for the 174/175 cabinet, please PLEASE post a picture with a part number so it can be ordered. Thanks!!

We purchased a universal hinge from Lowes.   My husband installed them and he tells me now that he did drill out the center to lengthen it toward the door side to allow the door to shut fully.  The drilled area is slightly larger than the rest---I am hoping that it shows up on these pictures.   I cannot remember what the exact hinge number is and seem to be unable to locate it on the website.   Sorry the pictures are still so big as I am trying to figure out how to make them smaller.

Ok, now I have the package--Gatehouse Friction Lid Support  part 0311974.   I guess it helps to not empty the trash.
