Did anyone else purchase the “Extended Service Contract?

I purchased a 48-month extended service contract from Cornerstone United when buying my r-pod from Jeff Couch’s RV, and I do understand that Forest River has a 12-month Warranty on the r-pod but I am surprised to learn that the extended service contract and the warranty run concurrently.

I thought that the extended service contract began when the manufactures warranty ended but that is not the case. I telephoned Cornerstone United and talked to them about this and they confirmed that the extended service contract begins the date it is purchased. I also had some questions about what it covered; because it seems for the initial 12-month period of ownership there may be double coverage on some things.

So what happens after the 48-month Extended Service Contract has expired can you get another service contract? In some cases these type of contracts are only sold on new RV’s but I would hope that they are also available after you have owned and RV 4-years or longer. It comes in handy if you need any major repairs; but again I’m not really sure what it covers?

I have and extended service contract on my car and it covers bumper to bumper. Extended service contracts are now also offered on low mileage used cars but I’m not sure about travel trailers?

I know that we took out an extended warranty too. I'll be sure to let Cindy know your inquiring about it and she'll get back to you about the coverage since we inquired about an issue. She handles the paperwork for us and made the call(s).

Thanks Pod Patrol! I had Cornerstone United e-mail a copy of the “Service Contract” to me and there are some interesting things in it; like your RV is “ineligible” under this contract if it was “not using a publicly maintained road.” Which pretty much says going off-road into the boondocks is a no-no under this contract?

Also this contract becomes ineligible for service if the original warranty by the manufacture has been voided. Although you can be reimbursed up to $150 if your refrigerator breaks down and the food in it spoils. I am also glad to read that it covers both travel in the U.S. and Canada, as I will be taking a trip to Alaska this year.

Pretty much I think it’s a good service plan, and I’m glad I read the fine print, which I think everyone should do because there is some stuff specific to each State in there; but I did not see anything about renewal at the end of the 48 month period?

It might be a good idea to keep a copy of this service contract in the pod in-case you’re out on the road and need some repairs, otherwise you may have to pay up-front and get reimbursed later.

Larry,
We purchased a 6 year extended service contract....The paperwork we got from Couch's says "Star RV"  We did the 6 year because we opted for a 10 year loan...however, I have it set up to pay double so we are effectively paying it off in 5 years...(We'll pay it off sooner if I win the lottery or inherit a winfall)...

The Platinum Plus service contract pretty much covers ever system that comes with the Pod...we got the PLUS because we got the 177 and the Plus covers the slideout...

So far, we have had to call for the furnace....and, they found a Forest River Service Place about 10 miles from us...So far, they have done great by us and that is where we are taking the Pod this weekend so they can start on some of the mods...

Thanks Pie Pod; I financed my 171 for 7 years but will most likely pay it off a lot sooner also, and got a 4 year extended service “optimum” plan from Cornerstone United for $965.00. Like I said before I think it is a good plan and was just wondering about renewal after it had expired. Guess I’ll give them a call and ask as it seems we pod owners got different extended service plans from different companies.
