Would someone who installed a round window in their door be kind enough to:
1) list the source (manufacturer/retailer?) where you bought the window 2) what was the part number of the window? 3) what price did you pay for the window? I did a Google search, and found a lot of RV windows but not a round one. I stopped at my RV dealer, he wanted $170 for a small 1ft square window, $60 for a 12-21 inch large window (which only left a couple of inches for margins). Thanks |

Check out this thread:
http://www.rpodnation.com/like-moving-into-a-new-house_topic1063_page2.html Don mentioned a search on the Internet, but I wasn't able to find a source. I did search Ebay and there is a Round Window available for around $60. It's 12". I was hoping to find a smaller one, but unable to locate any. Since we have a 177 the "letting light in" is not a problem because it has 2 windows up-front already. The other option is a "peep-hole" and that is in the modifications folder too. I believe that the issue of "who is knocking on my Pod door" brought up the peep-hole mod, then it went to windows, which works out well for those that do not have windows toward the front. |

This is where I got my window. It was 59.95 and we did not get a template with it. Not hard to install.

I contacted the CR Lawrence company...they have the round porthole window as mentioned above.
The problem has been that they have NO method to order directly from them via their website. And they do not reply to my email requests about dealers/retailers I could order from. It appears that they are strictly a wholesale company. That is, they don't want to interact with the final consumer. |

When you installed the window, did you use the silicone as the sealant they suggested in the instructions or the gray putty stuff you get from the RV stores that they use to install windows with? Getting ready to install mine, nevous about cutting the hole in the door!!!!!

We didn't get any instructions, but we used the gray putty stuff. That first hole is scary! No turning back. Just think how great it will look when you're done!

I went to the eBay address suggested by Tink and received the 'porthole' window in just three days!
The window trim is designed so that when you face the inner trim to the outer window and its trim, there is a 1 1/2" gap between the trim to fit exactly the door thickness. I was suprised on how little strength there is in the door. The inner door surface is simply a slick coating made of the same poly as the foam that insulates the door. The exterior surface is also nearly a film also. My starting drill went through the door like it was butter. Once you have the start hole drilled...you can almost use a steak knife to cut the porthole. I used a small hand held jigsaw. My wife watched me do the cutting and said that she was going to make sure that she never leaned on the door. You can use the gray putty to seal the window...if you make a mistake you can easily pull or scrape the putty away and try again. They also span a wider gap than the silicon adhesives if your cut is a little large. But I have never found automotive putty to last as long as the silicon-type adhesives. Silicon-type adhesives require quick cleanup if needed, and elastic enough that they are difficult to remove once they have cured. I hate leaking windows so I am going with silicon-type sealant. But have a couple of rags and mineral spirits ready. |
