I have a 2006 Santa Fe, but my hitch (Class III) also says "do not use with a Weight Distribution system".  Other hitches from Draw Tite, and Reese are the same.  There is a company called Valley (I have no connection with them) that makes a WD capable hitch for the Santa Fe. My local truck accessory dealer has ordered it for me at $155.00 CDN. It will be here this week, and my Service Manager at my Hyundai dealer confirmed that I can use it with my car.  I bought the WD system with the r-pod, but only realized after that, that my hitch was not rated for it.  I'll get everything  installed this week, and my RV dealer will set it up for me as part of the r-pod purchase. Other than towing the pod home, I haven't towed it anywhere, but many of my friends highly recommended a WD system, and possibly a sway control as well.

Someone else mentioned using a light duty WD system, from my understanding, it is very important to use the right system for the load you are towing, too light or too heavy WD units do not perform as efficiently.

If I have understood this thread correctly, the solution for the original poster was to replace the WDH with an "equalizer" type hitch.

Can some explain the technical difference between a WDH and an equalizer? For example, I know that a WDH shifts some of the tongue weight on to the front axle of the tow vehicle, but what does an equalizer do?

I can understand your confusion, so let me try to explain it..."equalizer" and Equal-i-zer are "brand" names for WDH.   There are also other brand names for WDH such as:  Reese and Draw tite.  If you do a search for weight distribution hitches you'll pull them up.  The prices range all over the place, so search for the best price.  Hope this helps.

I picked up the new hitch yesterday, but haven't installed it yet.  It is much more substantial than the current hitch on the car, even though both are Class III hitches with the same weight rating.  I am assuming that the new one (rated for WD) is stiffer or more resistant to torque than the old one.  Once I get everything installed and tow the camper, I'll report back.
