Hello everyone, first time poster long time troller. We are huge fans of the R-Pod after visiting our dealer but want to make sure our truck would be ok pulling a 176. The truck is a 2WD GMC Canyon with the Vortec3500 I5 rated at 220hp. The truck is setup with a tow hitch rated at 4000lb with a max tongue wght of 600lbs. Thanks for any and all info.

We have a 2008 Colorado Z71 with the 3.7 I5 engine and 4 wheel drive. Our tow capacity is about 5,500 lbs. We have the factory tow package which is just the hitch and 7 pin electrical connector. These trucks are very similar. We have no problems towing and have gone over 3,000 miles so far with our 171. Our mileage dropped from 21-23 mpg to 11-12 mpg while towing. We found that it is best to always tow in 3rd gear and keep the speed to 55-60 mph. This keeps the transmission temperature from getting too hot. We do not use a sway control or a Weight distribution hitch and do not need them. On the down side, the truck could use a little more power. For example, last week we went camping in New Hampshire and on a 7% grade, I was doing 40 mph in 2nd gear. |
