I prefer two 6V batteries simply because of the amount of AH they provide. If you're big into dry camping, I would go with the dual 6V setup. The down side to this setup is it will cost more money and it will be a heavier than a dual 12V setup.

Enjoy!

First, sorry for copying the 2 peas name, I didn't know there was another.

Two 6 volt batteries in series is a great idea to extend your range.  Most 12 volt batteries out there are not "really" deep cycle, meaning they have thin plates, and are intended for starting an engine (high current, short time)  Two CG110 golf cart batteries will provide about 100 amp hours of 12 volts (to 50% discharge state)  Golf cart batteries will be cheaper in the long run because they accept charging and discharging better than automotive or marine starting - deep cycle batteries, so they should last 5 to 7 years without much effort.

I have not upgraded the Pod to golf cart batteries yet, but I have 6 golf cart batteries on two PV (Solar) systems that I use at the house.  I also use a small solar panel when dry camping.  I am considering moving my 12 volt PV system (130 watts, two 6v batteries) to the Pod, but for now it's powering heated mattress pads, and winter is coming!

I added a second battery with a isolator switch so you can use one at a time or both.  It really helps to monitor your energy usage so when you run low on one you can switch to the other instead of just being out of juice.  We also have a solar panel which takes care of all our needs on a daily basis as long as we use the gas for the frig.
