We would like to go to Williamsburg and see the historical sites and camp in October. I found mixed campground reviews and it appears that some of the campgrounds closest to Williamsburg don’t have the best reviews. The best rated places were the KOA’s and Bethpage camp resort (which I don’t think is all that close, but I don’t know the area.) If anyone lives here or has camped in this area. Please give us a recommend.
Thanks

I used my first resource and came up with the following:

Edit: If it were me planning the trip, I think I'd go the 10 miles outside of town to here:

I’ve never been to Chippokes Plantation State Park but have camped in 5 other Virginia State Parks and have been pleased with them all. They do charge extra for pets.

We are heading out Monday and may go to Chippokes/Williamsburg. If we do I'll let you know. The reviews sound great. It is on the James River across from Jamestown. There is a free auto ferry to Jamestown which runs every half hour. The ferry ride is 15 minutes with another 15 minutes to Williamsburg on a lovely parkway which we have been on.
We spent our honeymoon in Williamsburg 38 years ago!

Did you ever go to Williamsburg?
We ended up on the Blue Ridge Parkway and shared our camp with Stink Bugs.  Dead
