I've never gotten that much gas milage towing. I have 17K on my '10 F-150 and almost 12K of that was towing.

2010 RPOD 176 (Silly-POD), 2011 Forest River Stealth 2612, and 2014 Forest River XLR 380AMP

Thanks for the information, you guys. It's interesting to hear there are others of you using the same type vehicle.  I am still concerned that even if I use the sway bars adjusted "loosely" that my system is too "big" as referenced in one of your posts about the friend who bent his hitch.  And honestly, I should just try it with nothing as some of you pointed out that you haven't had problems.  I guess as I get used to pulling it, I'll start to know what is normal and what is an issue and needs to be addressed.

We have a 2006 Toyota Highlander and it tows our RPOD 171 just fine. I added a sway bar and usually run it just below the loud "groan" sound but no issues with sway or towing power other than mileage cut in half when towing the POD.

For about the past 22-months, since buying my 2010 R-Pod 171; I have been towing it with a 2008 Ford Edge, V6-3.8L, 3500 lb towing capacity, and I do use a sway bar and have had no problems whatsoever. In fact it tows very well up hills over mountain passes, etc. but my gas mileage is not the greatest; about 10 to 14 mpg.

I took my Pod in for maintenance and the technician went out of his way to help with things beyond what I'd taken it in for.  One of those was the hitch system.  He adjusted the hitch so the Pod was more in line with the car frame hitch point.  He measured the ht. of the car above the tires sitting normally, ran the leveling bar up so the Pod and car were slightly "raised", put on the sway bars, lowered the apparatus and re-measured the ht. of the car.  It was basically the same as before the hitch was put on so he knew he'd put the chain in the right link for the correct tension.  I've not driven it extensively since but it surely handled better on the way home.  Thanks to Greg at Berglund Outdoors in Troutville, Va!
