I'm a new member - having picked up my new 177 a month ago - but having read the posts about axle risers I just got finished installing them on our new r-pod. No problems especially with all the good info on this site. thanks

but a question: - It occurred to me while installing the risers that additional clearance  could be gained by using larger rims and tires. - which lead me to thinking what if the tires were the  same size as the TV !! I could:
  •  save the hassle of having an additional spare tire
  • be able to use the rear for bike storage
  • not have to lug around another spare
  • get some additional clearance for that rough road in NC
what do you'all think?

are there some down sides to this approach? any body tried it?

If they fit, I don't see an issue with it at all.

Someone else can chime in here if I'm wrong, but I don't see an issue with the SIZE of tire; the main issue would be with the TYPE of tire. Trailer tires are built with much stiffer sidewalls than passenger or light truck tires, so you would have to have a separate spare for trailer anyway. I wouldn't put all that load and weight stress of the Pod on regular tires, no matter what their size. Like I said, I may be wrong, but I would put safety first over convenience any day.

Regardless, you will love the R-Pod lifestyle - they are wonderful campers. Have fun!

Not just a problem with tire load rating, but also wheel fit. I am sure the wheel on the pod matches SOME vehicle somewhere, but I KNOW it doesn't match my TV...

I had the same thought also, but for many of the reasons given above as wel as the cost, I abandoned that line of thinking and bit the bullet and installed axle risers (which, in my humble opinion, should be factory installed on all RPODS!

Hindsight it great, but the RPODS where orginally designed to be towed by small SUV's, trucks and cars.  Yeah I wish the factory had installed them, and I didn't have to, but I also wish......
