We are anticipating camping on the Oregon Coast during the storm season.  With the Rpod we should be just comfy.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to campgrounds on the coast for storm watching.  Also it was suggested that November might be the best time to camp.  Any suggestions?  Safe Travels.

I can't help you with any of your questions. But boy! That sure does sound like fun.

Tried replying to your post yesterday, but apparently it didn't go through. One of the best ares I've seen for both storm and whale watching is the Depot Bay and Boiler Bay areas, south of Lincoln City. I think Beverly Beach is the closest state park campground and although it's been several years since I've been there, it was a great campground from what I recall. It's just across the highway from the beach. November will probably still be pretty reasonable as far as weather, usually the Fall is the best time of the year on the Oregon coast. Have a great time!

Thanks for the suggestion.  Am familiar with the area.  Before we got our Rpod we used to book a room at the Agate Beach Motel in Agate Beach, each summer.  Terrific place.  On the beach, allows pets.  Now that we have a trailer again, will certainly put Boiler Bay on the top of our list.  Was wondering if you know of a place on the beach side of the highway, anywhere on the coast?  I have gotten some other podders to a roundup in Seaside starting Thur. Sept. 13th thru the weekend.  Maybe you both could join us.  Circle Creek RV Park  503-738-6070?  Safe Travels.

From what I recall, Cape Lookout is pretty much right on the beach, just a short walk down a trail to the beach. I've got a very cool iPhone/iPad app called Allstays camp and Rv that shows several parks right on the beach, but I've not been to any of them: Barview Jetty County Park, south of Rockaway, Sandbeach Forest Service CG on Sand Lake, Cape Kiwanda near Cannon Beach, South Beach SP south of Newport (a friend of mine just stayed here and said it's a very nice park), Harbor Vista CP North of Florence. There are several more further down, but that's what I can see within about a hundred miles of Portland.

We were hoping to make it to the roundup, but unfortunately we have a commitment elsewhere that weekend. Maybe next year! Hope you all have a great time, I'm looking forward to hearing about it and seeing pictures!!

We have stayed at South Beach State Park many times, and it is a wonderful place to stay. About 1 mile south of Newport (which is our favorite town on the coast), just back of the dunes off the beach about 1/4 mile. There are many walking paths leading to the beach, and it is a beautiful setting. Get a site along the outside of the loops, if you can - the inside sites get a little crowded, but are on the grassy area surrounding the bath houses, if you like that convenience. Have a great time!

I also checked with the Visitors Bureau.  They suggested Nehalem Bay.  Looks really neat.  I intend to check it out when we are at the Roundup in Seaside in Sept.  Thanks for the suggestion, not sure I won't to drivethat far south.  Will report on Nehalem Bay after I have eyeballed it.  Safe Travels.
