We just moved back to the NE and everything seems to shut down over here for winter camping. Are there any campgrounds open during the winter in NY or PA?

Campgrounds that are open in the winter in the northeast are few and far between. You don't say what part of New York State you are in or what part of Pennsylvania you are interested in. I do know that some of the campgrounds stay open until about the first of December to accomodate hunters. The only three that I know for sure are open year round are Dingman's Campground in the Delaware Water Gap, the Jellystone Park that's in Pennsylvania about halfway across the state off I-80, and Promised Land State Park in Green Town, PA. I think some of the other PA state parks are also open during the winter. You just have to do your research. The only reason I know about these is that they come in handy in getting us out of the northeast in the winter. Some of the private parks where people actually live year round will have spaces, but probably not where you want to take your family. (Although I have a favorite in Maryland that fits that category.)

We finally found a place to go last weekend. We stayed at HANSCOM AFB FAMCAMP near Boston. Their FAMCAMP stays open all year long. There were at least 15 campers there this weekend. Boston was a different and awesome experience with my family. Got to tour the USS Constitution, a 270 Coast Guard boat, visit historical places, see the science museum, and got a free blooming onion for Veterans Day. Thank goodness for campground(s) open during the "off-season" in the NE. I wish there were more near cities and such so families like mine can enjoy the NE whenever we can.

The 2012-2013 Annual NE Winter Camp has been announced!  It will most likely be in French Creek, PA (same as last year).  Wink

I wish I could join you guys, but I'll be away on a mission. Maybe in Feb instead?
