We bought our 2010 171 at the beginning of this last summer.
One question I have never answered is this:

Inside, on the ceiling control of the air conditioner, the controls have a cool and a heat side.  It appears as though the air conditioning unit doubles as a heater as well.  This would be awesome in the case where you have electrical hookups, and its cold.  However, when I put it on heat, and turn the thermo to hot, nothing comes out but recirculated air.

Can anyone clarify?  I am assuming its a generic panel and my unit just doesn't have the heat option, but was hoping to find out for sure....

Thanks for any input!

I have a 2010 171 and it doesn't even have a ceiling control. What does it look like? Can you post a picture? We just have a thermostat on the wall and when you set it heat, it runs the furnace.

Can you post a model # and name of the MFG>?  Sounds like the unit could have a option for a heat strip.

Some of the heat strips will not work if the outside temp. is below a certain temp

It's almost certain that it's just a dummy panel.  Mine also has a "Heat" option, but it doesn't heat anything when selected.  If you have the furnace thermostat on the wall somewhere, than it's almost guaranteed, the heat option on you A/C is bogus.

Thanks for the welcome!

I got a number of responses, so it appears I am not the only one that noticed this.  It is a Dometic AC unit and I took a pic this morning.  Sorry its dark, don't see much of the sun this time of year.

Interesting... do you still have to use the thermostat on the wall to control it, or is it completely independent?

Yes, I have a normal thermo on the wall back of the bathroom door.  It controls the furnace.

I have the same unit. No, the heat side does not work nor was it intended to work. The thermostat on the wall is for the furnace.
