Sounds good.  Let us know, hopefully we'll be around and we can get together.

Another nice campground, but further north, is Wagon Trail Campground. http://www.wagontrailcampground.com/  It is located on the Lake Michigan side.  We have stayed there many times. If you want to be away from the crowds and tourist traps, I would recommend them.  They have a very nice bathhouse and the sites are bigger and more secluded then any of the other private campgrounds around.  Don't miss out on Grandma's Kitchen just up the road.  To drive to the "tourist" traps, it is only a short drive of about 20 minutes.

If you are passing through Wisconsin Dells, another beautiful area, let us know.

We have our reservations confirmed at Wagon Trail, and are looking forward to it. Too bad September is so far away. We have trips to Arizona/Utah, Colorado, and several Missouri State Parks to keep us occupied until then.  Thanks again.

September weekends can be very busy in the towns.  You might start seeing fall colors if you are going later in September.  Perfect time to go either way.  Temps are cooler and not many bugs.  September was our favorite time to go.  Sounds like you'll be very busy visiting all those other places.  Enjoy.  Let me know how you like Door County.

Happy and safe traveling.

Would welcome any additional/updated specifics about Door Co.--campgrounds, restaurants, museums, etc. We'll be there for 10 days in early-mid Sept.

SOB.....it would be most helpful if we knew what your interests are?  Our favorite campgrounds are Peninsula SP in Fish Creek and Wagon Trail Campground in Ellison Bay.  If you are going in September, I would recommend reservations on weekends.  For things to see and do you can go to their website www.doorcounty.com.  Al Johnson's Rest. in Sister Bay is very popular and worth a visit.  They actually have goats on the roof.  I think we have been down every road in Door Country.  You'll find all sorts of places to stop at if you stay on Hwy 42 & 57.  If you like to take drives, get off the main roads and just head East or West.  You'll end up on the other side.   If you go North, you'll end up at the very tip.  You'll come across little shops that are dotted throughout Door County.   The landscape changes when you are off the main highways.  You'll find the prettiest drives on 42 & 57, and a lot more traffic.  The tip of Door County is very pretty and worth the drive.  The Door County Maritime Museum is at the end.  Don't be afraid to drive down any of the roads, you just can't get lost.  Head East or West and you'll end up on 42 or 57.

I've looked at the websites and drove thru the area a few years ago enroute to the UP, but was most interested in hearing from people who had been there and what they had enjoyed seeing and doing. I welcome the info--sob

Just got back from 10 days in Door County, camped at site 236 in Tennison Bay Campground in Penninsula State Park. Great park, great area, great site. Did the fish boil at the Old Post Office in Ephrim--was great! Lots of places are only open on the weekend in September and October. Whitefish Dunes State park was great for walking and wave watching, took the ferry to Washington Island and on to Rock Island--definite worth the effort. Brought bikes and a scooter and had a great time.

We must have been in Door County at the same time although we were in a private campground, Wagon Trail Campground, near Rowley's Bay Resort. We did spend a day at Peninsula SP, 2 at Newport SP, a day on Washington Island with our bicycles, and a lot of time eating. We also visited Cana Island lighthouse and Cave Point, but didn't go into the dunes.
