Planning a 2014 trip thru California and need to know of any good State Park or Forest Sites that have electric? Planning to stay in the northern coastal area along Hwy 101 in Redwood Country and then again several days in the wine country region close to San Francisco.
Thanks in advance Tom |

Since you are going all that way, and planning this far out, try not to miss the high Sierra's and Yosemite if you can make it..
Sorry, no help on coastal camping, for lack of any other way to put it, that was all an hour or two drive, so we never camped there. We spent all our camping time in the mountains. (and back then, the wine region was just an area "over there".. without wine or lodges etc) Next county over kind of thing.. |

We just finished a three week trip down the west coast. I don't think any of the California state parks have hookups, and definitely not in the redwoods. Believe it or not, there aren't even any dump stations in the Humboldt redwoods. When we were finished at the redwoods we had to drive a day with a full black tank up to our next stop in Oregon to dump. There are private parks outside the state park that could accommodate you, but it's just not the same. Prairie Creek state park is amazing. I've been going there since I was a kid and I'll continue to stay there every time we pass through.

There are some state parks that have hookups. If you go to parks.ca.gov, there is a filter to locate parks with services. The problem is that they fill up fast. I tried making some reservations for later this summer and had no luck finding availability. There are a few state beaches that allow rv dry camping along the coast.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. Staying in private campgrounds just isn't anything like staying in a State Park; the sites are too close together.

We stayed at the Golden Bear RV Park in Klamath. Centrally located to all the Redwood State & National Parks, right on the river and $15/night with Passport America.
