Overview
Forest River began producing the r-pod lite weight travel trailer on late 2008, around October. The r-pod is built on the same production line as the Surveyor travel trailer and as a result Forest River is able to use many of the same components that were already available on the Surveyor line in the r-pod. This resulted in a production cost savings, and a better grade of options and features for the r-pod.

Exterior
The r-pod walls are 2" gel coated fiberglass with an R9 insulation factor. It is the only lite weight TT that we know of on the market to have 2 inch sidewalls. The single, seemless roof all but eliminates the opportunity for water leakage. Only, the rear window seals and A/C / HD Antenna penetrate the fiberglass barrier.

Inside the fiberglass is welded aluminum sidewalls to allow for strength without added weight. All this sits on a powder coated steel frame.

Other exterior features are the independent torsion suspension system. This allows for a smooth tow, as each wheel operates independently of the other. Bumps and potholes are more easily absorbed, as opposed to a single axle, which will 'bounce' and transmit the bump through out the frame. The tires are 14" Goodyear tires on an aluminum wheel. A solid nice touch, topped off with an aluminum wheel fender.

The electric breaks prevent the r-pod from pushing the tow vehicle, and allow both the camper and the tow vehicle to decelerate at a consistent, controlled speed. Additionally, it will save wear and tear on your truck or SUV's break pads.

Believe it or not many small, lite weight campers do not come with a step-up platform or folding side assist handle, the r-pod has both, a nice touch. Forest River did their homework here. A significant percentage of the r-pod market has proven to be the 50+ crowd. Recent retirees and their spouses are looking for a small, easy to tow camper that is low maintenance and ready to go on a moments notice. The r-pod hits the mark for them.

On the roof sit a low profile 11,000 BTU air conditioner and the HD TV Antenna. The 20lb propane tank and battery reside up front just behind the 2" ball hitch. Below that is a storage tube to hold the tank discharge tubes.

Forest River even provide a 28' detachable power cord - ready to hook into your camp site's electrical box.

Lastly, a spare tire is mounted in the rear on a pinned coupler - perfect for removing the spare, throwing it in the back of your truck or SUV and mounting a bicycle rack with a couple of bicycles for the campground. Just below that is the rear stabilizer jacks, ready to deploy and lock your camper to the ground for solid footing.
