First time RV'ers here, went to Salt Creek Recreation Area 10 miles north of Port Angeles in northwest Washington State (on the Strait of Juan De Fuca) for three nights April 7 to 10, 2014.  After a slightly rough start (remember before you judge--- this was our first trip EVER towing a trailer)-- let's just say we were able to test the back up hitch chains--- yep, we didn't have the trailer hitch on properly which we discovered two blocks down the road...but no harm done...whew, we had three great days at this beautiful, scenic park run by the Clallam County Parks Department.  It's on a bluff overlooking the strait and we saw tons of bald eagles, deer, several sea lions, and many other wild life.  Also, great tide pools there and many great beaches nearby.  We drove 50 miles to Neah Bay one day to hike the .75 miles to cape flattery-- the most northwest point in the continental US and had great weather, not a certainty in April.

The trailer did well--- my wife and I found the queen bed reasonably comfortable (lots of negative reviews on the standard mattress we've read but do far it was fine for us).  Our 9 year old slept on the bed converted from the dinette and also no complaints.  We had a full power and water (no sewer) site so we could try the toys. My wife really liked the fridge--- found it ample.  We liked the bigger table the 178 offers and played many uno games at night (as well as watch $5 videos from Target).  My wife also liked not having to go out to a community bath at 3am, and those systems worked well.

Only one issue we need to follow up on:  when we turned on the furnace, the roof air unit also turns on (any idea why?). The manual aren't much help so we haven't figured out what's up yet.  I'm guessing the thermostat isn't programmed properly. Ideas?

We did set up the tent/awning and after a few frustrating moments, got it up and will do better next trip.  The silicone spray tip was helpful.  We just used it as an awning and was great to make morning coffee under (we set up a separate propane stove and boiled water and used Melitta filters) while our daughter slept.

Anyway, we would recommend this park and have already made followup reservations in June!
Thanks for any advice!

glad to hear you folks had a successful fist outing.  i hope you have many more that you'll share stories and pictures with us about.

sounds like you got to test all the key features and learned a lot, you're not the first to test your hitch chains on a first second or third outing.  it happens to more folks than you'd think.

as far as your one question, if your fan kicks on when you start your furnace, and most times it will, you need to take your thermostat and cycle to the fan setting, move the + or - buttons then once on fan and move it to AU which is for AUTO.  right now it is set to either hi or lo and that is why it cycles alongside your furnace.

that should take care of that one for you, let us know anything else you folks come up with in the future and congratulations and safe and happy Podding!

glad I'm not the only one who has had this problem with my 178. I always forget how to fix it though! I just push all the buttons until it starts working the way I want.
My truck was made with wrenches not chop sticks!
