I'm trying to find a good, firm short queen mattress for my 171. So far I'm finding they don't exist except the cheap ones at camping supply dealers.

Oliver,

Amazon - look at RV Queens, from experience - buy 8" not 10"

We had a great mattress from Camping World. They have many many choices. You are looking for an "RV Queen". and as Mike says.. 10" sounds good.. until you try to put it in the space..

I ordered a memory foam shirt queen mattress on amazon. We could not be more happy. It is very comfortable. Serenia Sleep 8-Inch Memory Foam... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008V655LO?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I bought a good foam mattress for an Artic Fox trailer and used an electric knife, yes the same used to carve a turkey, to cut the end off to make it a queen short. It worked perfectly! Now on my 2020 R•Pod 178 it appears I will need to do the same thing, my wife hates the mattress, sagging after three weeks, although I need to measure to confirm it's a 'queen short.

It is an RV Queen or as you call it a "queen short".  It is a common mattress in 8" thickness for about 200 bucks numerous places.  Not sure why you would cut when many replacement mattresses are available.

I found a much better selection of mattresses in the conventional queen size than what was available in queen short and at much better prices. Obviously this would only work, cutting with an electric knife, if you used a foam mattress. I have found 'RV' mattresses to be overpriced and of a lesser quality. It is simply supply & demand.

You don't need to measure. It is a short queen.
