My question is the air cond. controlled by a thermostat, or does it continually run without turning on or off acording to the desired temp. Also what might be the life time of the rpod cover in the SW Fla. sun. David and Danette Clap

The Air conditioner will 'maintain' a steady temp as set on the control. Note - it will probably not kick on at all in cool weather - 60's or so - no matter how cool you set the control.

I bet you're right...and this would explain why my friends generator was able to power my rpod with the a/c, tv, fridge and lights on and I couldn't with mine this past weekend. When I tested it with his the a/c wasn't actually kicked on....at least now I understand why.Lamp

I have another question is the air conditioner a penguin, is it prewired for the optional heat strip. We live in SWFLA. where winters are mild. The furnace will be helpful when we camp out of state. But most of our camping will be in FLA. The optional heat strip sounds good.  Smile David and Danette

The A/C is a Dometic lo-pro - it will accept a heat strip. FR will not add at the factory - would have to be installed after market.

When I purchased my Pod 173, My wife & I both was under the impression from the salesman that the Air Conditioner was a heat and cooling unit. My wife and I were checking out the Pod after we arrived home with it, and low and behold, there was no heat strip in the unit. I called my salesman right away and he was under the impression that the strip was there also.
I then called Dometic to inquire if I could install one my self. The strip only cost $45.00, but because Forest River is installing mis-matched parts for the A/C unit, I can not install the heat strip because it would melt the intake air duct for the air conditioner. I took mine apart and was reading the part numbers off the inside mounting plate to Dometic over the phone and they told me that I could not install the strip even tho the unit is pre-wired for the strip.
