Thank you for the warm welcome, I certainly hope to find another R-Pod in a campsite very soon and look forward to it being a topic of conversation from curious campers everywhere hahaha! Wink

Hi Kathy

Well, I'm either going to do them or go through Jasper and Kamloops; the drive is just very long but this route isn't as popular so will be less busy having done it in my sleep many times (kidding) but twice in one winter and many times since then (I like Jasper and dislike Hwy 2).

In the midst of trying to get a proper receiver/hitch combo, I stumbled across the Pathfinder and traded the Santa Fe in.  The Pathfinder is a bigger and heavier vehicle and seems to be better on the highway though I still feel the crosswinds (I HATE wind and I seem to be a wind magnet when I tow!).

I love my Santa Fe and wouldn't part with it now but we may change our minds once we get into this whole travel trailer experience. I hate crosswinds around Banff, they can be nasty with any vehicle let alone a big sail like a trailer.

This is a great idea or places around Red Deer just to meet half-way. As they say,"If you build it, (they) will come"

But that will have to be later on in the summer, I plan to make myself a few three day long weekends if I can.

Welcome on board!!  Happy adventures ahead!

I'd love to visit Nova Scotia but that's for the future once my dear hubby earns some more holiday time. I'd want to spend at least two weeks or more getting there and back and enjoying ourselves along the way.

We never did the tent trailer, although we do have a really cool tent that attaches to our Hyundai and I guess now wed be looking to sell that.

We also got the R-Dome although it sounds like that might be like putting up wallpaper, our marriage may never be the same once we're done hehehe!

Tess & Brad,

We would love to do something around Red Deer as well.  Looking forward to doing the weekend trips into Sep/Oct before winterizing "RC" (short for Rainbow Cutie - my daughter's name for our Pod).  It is going to be so hard to leave RC for the long Alberta winter.

You'll love your R-Pod!

Hi and welcome
We are r-pod owners in Edmonton also
We purchased our 171 last Sept in hopes of pulling it with our 09 Santa Fe 3.3 V6
After our first trip last fall to Rocky Mountain House before winter hit
I was quite taken back by my first towing experience the Santa Fe was fine on flat roads but on any type of grade it struggled and an number of times I had to shift down a couple of gears just to maintain 80-90 KMH at very high RPMs not recommended!
Any way this spring I purchased a used full size truck Ford F150 to pull the pod and its great and more enjoyable towing with a bigger more powerful truck
And dont really used any more gas with the F150 compared to the Santa Fe I guess because the truck doesnt have to work very hard to pull the pod as the Santa Fe is really working hard
I hope your towing experience with the Santa Fe is better than mine was
Enjoy the new R-pod!

Hi Rpod mania,

I had the same experience with our 3.0 litre Ford Escape. We sold it this May and got a full size Chevrolet pickup. Now we can cruise comforably at 65 mph (110 km/h) instead of struggling to maintain 55 (90km/h). The rpod rep at the roundup admitted that for some reason "the R-pod tows heavy", meaning it takes more to tow than its weight alone would suggest.

I think more RV dealers that sell the R-pod should be educated about the tow vehicle requirements of the R-Pod.It would save a lot of frustration. And may be a bit more honest about what type of vehicle can tow the Pod comfortably instead of just trying to push the fact that its marketed as being able to be towed by a smaller tow vehicle

One rpod dealer we visited before we bought ours had a big chart on an easel next to the rpod on the showroom floor that listed all the SUV, minivan, and other small to mid-sized vehicles that are capable of towing an rpod.
