Subject: What You Should Know !!!

Dear r-Pod Nation members,

It appears that we are getting alot of new members. Some are first time RVers,
some are experienced RVers, some have owned RVs before, some never have.
Some are totally new to the "camping" experience all-together, and we currently
have members that amaze us with their camping/RV knowledge.

As the new members roll-in, I can imagine they are over-whelmed by all the information
this forum has to offer. Sometimes the answer to their questions are buried by dozens of
posts, or it may be to technical for their Yes/No questions.
After all, most arrive with the willingness to learn, as most of us did.
I am seeing patterns as to the nature of most of their questions.
As Valid as all inquiries are, some get redundant.
What I am suggesting is an area where FAQs could reside.
Is anyone catching my drift here ???
I would need the help of other members to achieve this.
We want to help everyone, that's just our nature.
But it may be just what the doctor ordered to help the new members
to ask the "right" questions.
Towing is a big concern.
Mileage is a big concern.
Hitch issues / Weight issues
Tire issues / Tongue issues
the list is long but none of these "issues" are trivial, they are important !

Just wanted to raise this flag and see who salutes it.

The Topic would be named "FAQs" and after it's creation and once
it's populated with "FAQs" and the corresponding response it would be
locked from any further posts. The only time it would be re-opened is in the
event we add another "FAQ" and it's response.

What ya think Podders ???

IMHO that is a great idea.  Having been on the forum for awhile, I have seen valid questions asked by newcomers that had been previously asked and discussed.  It is difficult to find those old posts on here in order to steer them in the right direction.  Having a FAQ section would make it so much easier for the newcomers to have their concerns addressed.  Not to mention that while we may not all encounter a particular problem when it is being discussed, it may arise in the future.  It would be nice to know exactly where to go to read the discussion and possible solutions to the problem.

Thanks Rose !!!
We can use your help ..... In some instances a link to a web site may be
just the thing we need ..... for example:

Can my Vehicle tow an r-Pod ???

For this particular question we could post a link to the r-Pods web site
that has their Weight Specs, THEN we could post a link to another web
site that might have the towing capacity for cars/trucks.

It's that easy !!!

Of course they all won't be as easy, but Im sure you get my drift.

I think it is a good idea but I also think it is a HUGE undertaking.  At least it is something to keep you busy until Spring comes!LOL

I agree with all of the above, perhaps even some help from couch"s rv or another dealer they have had the experince of these questions every day. And there is nothing like experience of those who have camped for a long time. There are those too who are natural and good at explaining things, good teachers helping one to clearly understand.         David

Maybe as a first effort, you could just simply create a sticky topic with the various questions of interest and links to existing threads where those questions are answered.  If you put all the links in the first post, we could all help out by making suggestions (and supplying links) in the thread.  You can then monitor the thread, take the good suggestions and update your first post.

Don't forget:
How long will my propane last?
Why doesn't my 120v receptacle work when I'm on battery?
What type of generator should I buy?

Thank-you all for the awesome input !!!

I can definitely see we are all on the same page here ... this is great !!

We will need input, suggestions, references, links, basic facts (how much does a full 20gal LP tank weight?) *thanks outbound!*

That question will always be the same answer .... things like this can be listed once and then forget about it.

BUT !!!! (how LONG will a full 20gal LP tank last me?) This is another story .....
Then we can possibly find some links to posts here that we feel may help them determine that.

I think we will go (in this early stage of planning) with Outbounds suggestion as to how to actually construct it. The first post being updated, and the following posts be suggestions and links to these suggestions.

PLEASE UNDERSTAND that I'm not trying to dismiss the fact that there are RVers/Campers out there that come here seeking advice and help not only about the r-Pod, but RVing/Camping in general.
We have all done SO WELL Clap with helping others with their questions and inquiries.
PLEASE CONTINUE to be the awesome people you are. I'm just hoping to give everyone "another" tool to help you help them.
I've been to alot of forums that have FAQs folders, and some even require newbies to read it.
We wont do that.
It will be more for reference and suggestive reading, thats all.

Thanks for saluting this idea. I promise to do most of the work .... LOL  (yeah, right!)
*that Johnnie Ray is sure look'n good Craig!*

I think this is a GREAT idea!!!  As you said, the same questions keep coming up and having the FAQ's will help newbies find a quicker answer without going thru pages of old posts.  If you need help with links let me know.

Thanks !!! Its really easy to help !!!

If you know of a FAQ to submit, then just post it in the FAQs topic in Maintenance Issues, Tips and ... folder .... its a sticky so its at the top...

Ill organize them and transfer the information to the first post (mine) so its right at the top all the time. Ill edit and add more to the first post as they come in. All posts by members will remain, I'll just transfer the FAQ and links to the first post. (mine)

Organizing them will be easy at first, but may get more complicated.

Thanks Yizit !

We will be new R-Pod owners tomorrow. We are not, however, new to RV's or camping. I've already gotten a bucket load of good info from this forum and will be happy to contribute in any way possible. I'm a blogger and photographer, so if you need any help in keeping things running as you envision them, let me know. Happy to help.

Thanks Huron & Yak !!!

The FAQs are just a listing of reference material we feel is either frequently asked, or may apply to all RVers.
This "material" can be listed, or a link with an appropriate heading.
You are more than welcome to submit anything you feel that might be of some help
to new Members, RVers, and all Podders.
If you feel you may have something to contribute please post it here, then I will edit
my first post to include it.

Thanks !!!

I agree it would be nice to have a Frequent Questions section.  It would also be helpful to mention the search function of this site which I've had to use many times.

I also think a FAQ section is a GREAT idea! Even though I have been on a few months now, sometimes I have to use the search quite often to find an answer to a question I know has already been answered. I know that new members may be over-whelmed with all there is to offer here, and the FAQ area would really be helpful!   Clap

I agree Foxy. I'm asking any/all members to post their FAQs suggestions here within this thread, then I will condense them, or provide a link to the posting at the beginning of this topic.

I hope it works out for at least the more "general" stuff.

I realized that I could never find post that I wanted to go back to or at least it was hard to find, particularly modifications that I wanted to make to our Tri-pod so I print those I want to keep and place them in a note book. Clark

I disagree that this should be built and locked. There are often varying opinions as an answer to a question.

If you want an FAQ build a companion web page and extract the "Best of RPod Nation"

The free flow exchange of information often gives the person posting the question the shades of various options.

For Example:
Can I tow with a ________________"
Well that depends..
Can you install a hitch that will hold the tongue weight
Can you connect to this hitch and move the rig forward.
What about brakes, what about stopping, controlling and steering.
Can you afford to buy a new transmission?
How far do you want to go...   30 miles to the campground, or 3000 miles across the Rockies...
Can you defend yourself in a lawsuit when the plaintiff proves you were overweight and that caused the accident?

This kind of information can only be delivered in a forum with give and take back and forth dialog.

Just my less than humble opinion.

On the subject of maintenance, I'm often asked how to lube wheel bearings and how often it should be done.
