Now that the Winter Holidays are over, thought I'd bring this to the top of the list (New Postings).

Just checked the http://texas.reserveworld.com/ - http://texas.reserveworld.com/   and they have 38 sites available.

It's 120 days away, when spring gets here I think the sites will go fast.

I just tried to reserve a site. Only thing that had available for that weekend now are primitive campsites. I was hoping to make it and meet some other RPoders. I'm hoping to get a 173 by the end of next month to start my first big camping trip of the year off right.

I tried, but didn't find out about this website and the round up until just today. Next year, I'll be there.

Welcome! Sorry  you could not get a site. Hopefully you can join us at another time. I also have a 173 and I love it! We are planning on a gathering for October, Columbus Day. Hopefully you can join us then. Also there will most likely be other gatherings before then. Keep an eye out on this site. Where in Central Texas are you? I am just north of Dallas. Good luck on getting your Pod!

Thanks for the welcome Maryjo. I'm located just north of Austin. I've gone to a local dealer in Pflugerville and have seen and toured a 173 in person. I like the layout of couch and dinette. I'll keep an eye out here for other gatherings. And, I'm camping several times during the year so I might run into other Rpoders too.

NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER!!!!

Keep checking people change plans, and some might change there mine as the gas prices go up!.  Last fall Billy Bob couldn't get a reseveration at first, but later they had cancelations.  Plus you can always stop by if your in the area.

How far are you willing to travel?  Check out Texas need help thread.  Peggy L and I will be on the beach in April and maybe a couple of others, they had 19 spaces left when we made our reservations.

YEP,  but my first trip of the year starts Friday after work.  Just a short get away to make sure I have everything I need for the summer.

I totally emptied everything from the inside, fogged it for any unwanted guests, washed all the dishes, linens and camping clothes (PJ's, Swimsuits and Sweaters that stay in the pod), checked dates on can goods.  Only putting back things I know we actually used last year, it's amazing how  much you take with you just in case.  At least in Central and South Texas one is never far from an H.E.B. or Walmart, now for long trips or out west JUST IN CASE is a must.  Anyway we shall see over the next two local trips how much more I add (other then food).

We will be at this TX round up! I am very excited to meet new friends. I purchased a TT, that is also by Forest River, but it is a Flagstaff Micro Lite XLT 18RK. It has a floorplan similar to a 175. The price was just right, and I decided to get it -- despite it not being a Pod. I have named it Faux Pod. I have made my reservation for this event and Strike and I look forward to the up coming adventures!

Clap Welcome aboard, Miss Polly. I'm a non-Podder, too. We traded our Pod for a Zinger 230 and now serve as the buffet central for the PodPeople.

If you just can't wait to try it out, Ain't Leo, Lil Harry and I will be at Fairfield Lake SP April 21 - 25. We welcome anyone who can come. Good Dutch oven cooking and fun with the dogs.

I got some nasty comments on Walter's Steak and Kidney pie Dead ! Don't blame me. I didn't make it and I refused to eat it. I tried to tell him it was a potluck and not a survival exercise.

All the neighbors DID love the Dutch apple crisp, though. I'll probably make more deserts for you guys on this trip and have fun watching you eat them since Ain't Leo is closely monitoring all of the sweets I eat. I might even work on some diabetic recipes for the trip.

Becky and Gary, I joined the Lone Star Dutch Oven Society. What another great bunch of peeps. They have a chapter that cooks at the Bear Creek Park about ten miles from here. I'll be getting a lot of new recipes soon.

We would have made more trips this year, but Ain't Leo has me working in the yard. Here's proof.

Sounds like a plan, Becky. I hope everyone will forgive me, but I'm already looking at some diabetic friendly recipes - otherwise Ain't Leo won't let me have any of the good goodies.

I'm going to try out some of the new recipuppies at Fairfield Lake next weekend and I'll keep y'all posted. I'm also waiting on Dan to deliver some more Axxis meat so that we can have some more Bambi chili. Who knows? We might even do a Dutch oven Bambi tenderloin roast.

Why thank you, thank you very much. I spent the day in it putting stuff away and getting organized. I got a foam matress from Overstock to make the bed better! I still need some little things to make it like home, but I am taking it out for a shake down Fri and Sat.

I am very excited. I do believe camping will be fun. This weekend's trip I am going alone, but the Memorial Day event I plan to bring my son.

I'm not sure if you mentioned it elsewhere. Where is your shakedown going to be at?

My official, not camped in the driveway, shakedown is this weekend in Port Aransas. I'm nervous, but really excited.

I sure hope I can back it into the spot at the campground...

Welll....the official shake down was to be at a Jepp adventure park in Marble Falls called Hidden Falls. But the winds were 25-35 mph sustained so I decided not to pull it down there. It would have made me a nervous wreck. I stayed in a hotel, but I had an incredible time at the Jeep park. So it was a good trip, I just did not get to camp in my trailer.

I will have a shake down sometime soon, I just need to get in and GO! How was the trip to Port A?

Sorry you didn't get to make the shakedown. The Jeep parks are fun, though.

Just got my new tarp in so that the pup and I can sleep out on the trail when we go to Fairfield Lake. Ain't Leo can get some rest while we go hiking.

If you are in bad need of a place to camp, we'll be there. Hope you get some camping time soon. The weather has been great and we hate missing any opportunity.

I'm sorry you didn't get to take your trailer out. I really enjoyed the short time this past weekend. Port A was windy, but the weather was gorgeous. I saw some small turtles by the jetty, even snapped a picture or two of them. I didn't make it to the Sand sculpture competition, or go kayaking (winds were too strong).

My next outing, and it's a big one, starts Friday. I'm going to spend 2 nights at Abilene State Park then continue on to Caprock Canyon State Park and stay there for 7 nights. I'm looking forward to it and am thinking of supplies I'll need to make sure I have a good time. I won't have internet most of the time, but I'll have fun hiking, photographing and mountain biking. I'm thinking of taking my kayak since they have a small lake at Caprock, might be good to get some kayak muscles stretched out. I'm looking forward to this trip, been planning it for almost a year and it's one I wanted to do in a camper.

OK, boys and girls. What's the plan?

If we are having a potluck this time, what night will it be? If so, I'm making a Dutch oven stew, a Dutch apple crisp and a cherry cobbler.

I'll be bringing the lighting kit again so we have lights in the kitchen area. I think Gary said before that we had some Christmas lights for the campfire area. I might even crawl up into the 500 degree attic and bring some down.

Some good trails there, so those who like to hike can have some good times. For those who like the water, Trammel Crossing has access from the campground. Ask Ain't Leo about that. That's where she goes to do her prune imitation.

Shameless plug

Shall we potluck on Sunday evening?  I know you have to attend a graduation on Saturday so you would have plenty of time to cook on Sunday.  Why don't we do a hot dog roast on Friday (depending on no burn ban).  If there is a burn ban in effect then we could cook them on the stove.  Ermm  Saturday - it could be every man for himself and we will just gather to visit before and after.

Any comments on this plan?  Smile

We changed the graduation plans. Ain't Leo doesn't want to miss any time with you guys, so we're gonna take Katie to lunch the following weekend. We'll get there on Thursday pm. I'm shooting for site 50 as our headquarters. It's got room for my trailer and a couple of nice spots for tables, cooking, etc. So whatever days you guys want to cook is fine with me.

Just got a call from the State Park...

05/11/2011- The Park is under a Burn Ban. No wood burning fires are allowed. Charcoal is currently allowed in the fire rings & waist high grills only. Containerized fuels stoves (i.e. propane) can be used for cooking purposes only. If dry conditions continue charcoal use may also be banned. Please contact the park for more information.

Yakdriver is there a fire ring at the spot you picked out?
Should we each plan on bringing a bag of charcoal?
I think my portable firering is too low..but I'll check when the date get's closer.
Do we need extra tables?

I personally don't know if I'm going up Thursday evening/night or Friday afternoon.  Probably late Friday worst case.

Do we want to do a bring a meat w side item on Saturday and Pot Luck on Sunday or Pot Luck Saturday with Leftovers Sunday (we always have enough food).

Also I guess we need to get a head count.

For Podterfly it's Myra and I, (Sat or Sun I have some friends visiting from Nebraska 2 adults and a special daughter (like Myra) just for the day).  Oh for course the Dog Pack.

Any other ideas, side trips or just general info...please post...

FIFTEEN MORE DAYS,

As I recall each of the sites has a fire ring/grill combo.

It would be good if others could bring some charcoal, especially if we'll be doing a lot of cooking. I've got a couple of large bags that I am bringing. I may pick up an extra.

I'm bringing a 6' folding table and I also have a 3'.

I'll be going Thursday evening to get set up and to start putting together the lights and kitchen area.

Leo wanted me to check on how we were going to do things. I told her it was a good time to let someone else do the organizing and you are one of the most organized people we know. Her mind is not on the job because her best friend is in hospice care.

For the potluck I thought everyone would just bring a dish and take "Potluck." I'll be making a dutch oven roast of some type or another. I'll probably make a cobbler or two, also. I think the meat with side idea is good, too.

We might ought to get Becky's input on this, too. Other than her I don't know who all is coming, so a headcount would be nice.

As far as side trips are concerned, you are about 15 minutes from the LBJ historic family home and gardens. Fredericksburg and Enchanted Rock are about 30 -40 minutes away. Nice shopping and the Nimitz Museum in F'burg. Nuff said about The Rock. All nice places.

Nice swimming areas. Tubing available for those with that inclination. Hiking is good with some nice trails. One of my favorite places.

Long and hilly road from HQ to campsites. Lots of  deer and other wildlife.

Let me know if I missed anything in this quick summary.

Ok guys, it is gonna be me and Brindle if I can get my energy back. That trip to Santa Fe just wore me out and did a number on my back. I have been taking it easy since I got back so I can make the Memorial Day outing. I hope to be there Friday afternoon. If plans change I will let you know.
Anything sounds good to me. Let me know what I can bring, charcoal will be on my list.

Good and Bad news!!

Bad news first, we are canceling trip for Memorial Day.  Gas prices and work on house have taken a bite at us.

Good News, our Great Grandson is due around the first of June now and does not look like an easy delivery.  So we would really like to be available.  Also, more good news, our youngest daughter (age 40) is finally pregnant!  We are so excited about both babies and feel truly blessed.

Hope everyone has a great time and we will miss all of you...Carole & Steve

Carole and Steve Congratulations! I hope the delivery goes well! Also congrats to your daughter! You will be missed Memorial Day, but it is understandable. Two new babies is truly a Blessing! Maybe we will see you at the next Round-up!Thumbs Up

Hope you all have fun.  Unfortunately, we won't be able to make it there the 6 hr drive is a little much for a 3 day weekend.  Instead, we are heading back to one of our favorite places I.B. Magee Beach Park in Port Aransas TX.

Happy Podding

Steve and Carole congrats, what fabulous blessings. Please give my best to your youngest daughter. I too am the youngest, and I just had a baby 6 mnths ago at age 39. Science helped with my blessing. He is big strong and funny. You will get to meet him on the next trip.

The count in our camper is myself and Strike, so only one will be eating real food. I will be glad to bring charcoal and any other supplies. I have a gas grill that attaches to the outside of the Faux Pod. I also have a 4 ft folding table. We plan to get there about mid day on Friday.

Strike and I went practice camping Monday and Tuesday, and I have to say he seemed to sleep better in the camper. Maybe I should have been living in it the last 6 months.

See you all at the end of the month!

Even us "big babys" sleep better in the camper. Now you know the secret. If he's cranky at night, just take him out to the rig and he'll quiet down.

We look forward to meeting you guys at the roundup.

It's just me for this trip (well, with the orange frog but he doesn't eat much). I'll be showing up sometime Friday, not sure when but will most likely be mid-day. I'm not sure what to bring for any of the gatherings (i.e. potluck). Give me some ideas of what you think we'll need and I'll bring it. Sorry, that offer doesn't include a 'sack o' cash' or a tanker full of gas...

As for plans, I know we have potluck Sunday, is that it for planned events? I plan to bring my mountain bike and hiking boots, and my camera(s). Anyone wanting to do some hiking or biking just let me know and we can join up and have some adventuring. I might even bring a swimsuit and go get wet in the river, if there is any water running that is.

Am I missing anything, or does that seem like it. Potluck on Sunday, meet and visit and hangout the rest of the time? I'm looking forward to it. I'm really enjoying the Pod and taking it out and can hardly wait for this round up to get here. Looking forward to meeting everyone and just having fun with everyone.

Cry  Sad news. Cry  Gary and I may not be able to make this weekend.  We put his mom in the hospital today.  If they can get her straightened out (the Doc said a couple of days) we may be able to get there but it doesn't look good.  Broken Heart  Broken hearted about it all.

Daystarsc: Important....Sorry you MAY not be able to Make it.
MaryJo:  Sorry to hear you can't make it.

On the Bright Side summer is only just started.   Podterfly is already north of San Antonio and I plan to make several trips to the hill county area.   Let me know if you plan to be in the area, since the first 175 miles on tow_less it's easilier to get there.  I plan to be up there at least one, if not twice a month.

Those who are still interested you might check o n reservations again.

Also any of you NEWBIE's who are insterested in starting a roundup...all you have to do is post when and where!

Daystarsc I am saying prayers for Gary's mother. Please keep us informed!

Lee, hopefully I will see you guys in October.  The price of gas is one reason I am staying closer to home for now. My vote is for Inks Lake State Park for Columbus Day. But whatever is decided I will be there.

Polly I was looking forward to meeting you and your son. Hopefully we can meet at another get-together. Columbus Day may be the next one for me.

Off subject from Maryjo and Daystarsc.

I'm giving thought of going to Fredericksburg on Friday Evening to catch some Cajun food and culture and to also watch Jody Nix perform some great country and western swing music. It's a $6 admission, but I think that's a small amount to pay for a good time. Anybody who wants to join me let me know either here or at gmail (czardastx at gmail.com). OK OK  Here's a Pic of the Park Sign   (to prove I was there).

Here is the Scenic Overlook by the Ranger Station.
The campsites are over the first ridge in the background.

This was my little campsite.

It's so peacefull that a pair of deer walk right into the Campsite.

The area has been under a burn ban for a while!  The previous campers made a fameless firepit, it's about 10 inches in diameter with a cooking stick.

It was hot and windy the entire weekend, took a couple of trips down to cool off in the river with Myra and Hercules (waterproof camera needs to be developed) Friday and Saturday.
Other than a quick shopping trip, stayed close or in the Podterfly (relaxing, sleeping and eating), (Pod Dogs are relaxing on a large piece vinyl (which keeps the bunk clean) and dog bed, thats where they hang out when I have the kitchen area.)

We got together in the cool of the evening for GREAT food and conversation.  Myra had her own idea of smoores...Marshmellow with chocolate on each side forget the cracker.

Hopefully more pics to follow from others.

WONDERFUL TIME  Although get home with 30-50mph headwinds was interesting.

cmjmoore! After set up I really don't go under the bunk that much, but when I do Hercules moves to the kitchen and as soon as I reach for the handle the little ones scurry to the couch.
