Spent a wonderful R-pod camping (it's nice to have such a great little trailer) weekend about 200 miles west of home in Salina, KS, at the 36th Smokey Hills River Festival. Good campground, Awesome Art (nearly 200 exhibitors), Great Music (four stages going all weekend), Good food, some nice birding (got a good robin and fledgling picture), and new friends met. We went specifically to see a musical group called Acoustic Eidolon, a couple I hosted three years ago when they were in KCMO. It was well worth the drive, we both just love their music and had great fun at the festival. We loved Lindsborg! In fact we loved Kansas. We were thoroughly expecting our diagonal trek across your state last fall to be quite boring but were pleasantly surprised several times along the way. Lindsborg was one of those surprises. My husband is of Swedish descent and I have a collection of Dala horses. What a fun little town for us.

Yes, Lindsborg is a delightful town. It is amazing what people think of when they think of KS. It certainly is not flat, elevation gain of about 2500 feet east to west, beautiful rolling topography in the Flint Hills, lovely small towns, great university towns, interesting roadside attractions (I even enjoyed the "Worlds Largest Prairie Dog"). I am the first to admit that it is a long way across KS when I am anxious to get to the Colorado Mountains, but it is an enjoyable and beautiful place with tons of great people to meet and interesting things to enjoy.

Zilbub, hope we can meet up sometime. If you can come to Missouri on Labor Day, there are several podders from the midwest meeting at Weston Bend State Park (just north of MCI airport,  in Weston, MO). Love to have another join us!

The donkey Pod spent all last week in Salina Ks at the K O A.  We went to Abilene KS to see Eisenhower Presesidential Library and Abilene Old town. One day went to see Lindsborg Ks..It is called Little Sweden.  In camp most of the time.. They have a fish pond there so I fished twice a day.. Early and late...  Had a nice time ..

Wewokus . . . that is a nice campground. We enjoyed the fishing pond also, not for fishing, but for bird watching, lots of baby birds around when we were there.I'll bet it was a bit on the warm side last week, I remember seeing Salina temps around 108. It is nice to have lots of shade trees in that camp.

Consider joining us at Weston Bend State Park (just north of Kansas City on I-29) for Labor Day. Here is a link: http://www.rpodnation.com/2nd-labor-day-mini-meet-weston-bend-state-park_topic3169.html - http://www.rpodnation.com/2nd-labor-day-mini-meet-weston-bend-state-park_topic3169.html
There should be 5 or six pods there for the weekend, it SHOULD be cooler, and there are lots of fun and interesting things to do in the area. It would be great to meet you.

Thanks so much for the festival info. and photos! This is exactly the type of thing I love to do. The art looks spectacular and I love, love the wrapped trees and colored ducks and glass work. Wow! Will have to go in 2013. It's on my list now!

It really was a great festival. Drove through Salina today on the way home from a hiking and archaeology trip to Ghost Ranch in New Mexico, and thought again about the festival. If you live in the midwest, several of us usually get together once or twice a year. We always post on this and the "other" forum, as well as the Rpod facebook group.

OoooOOOOh. I'm jealous of the hiking part and DH is jealous of the archaeology part of your trip!

We are in Texas but love New Mexico. I'd love to head to the north midwest and see Utah, Wyoming and Montana, then back through Nebraska and Kansas. That's why we got the camper, to see all these places we've always wanted to...at our own pace. That'll be a big trip though, and since we both work full time, it may take us a few years to get there. But, in the meantime, long weekend trips are perfect for us.

Please do post about midwest get-togethers and I'll keep my eyes peeled for it. Let me know also if you do the Salina festival in 2013, cause I'm sure gonna try to get our family there, schedules permitting. It just looked so cool!

Dear Kansans,
We are located near Pratt.  Please keep us in the information loop for upcoming Kansas POD outings. We would like to fit it into our schedule!
