Subject: NORTHERN KY MINI RALLY 2012
Date Posted: 23 Jun 2012 at 1:02pm
We have just reserved site #35 at Big Bone Lick, in Northern Kentucky, for the dates of Sept. 20-23. Checking out on Sept. 24.
Be aware that there is a hill which you have to go up in order to get to the campground. Perhaps someone who has been there will chime in and let us know what it was like with their vehicle. We have no trouble with our F150. We also camped there many years ago pulling our popup with a car.

And NO...I will not be the UnLeader because I signed up first.

This will be a very relaxed rally, as was the one at the Horse Park this summer. We will have free time to explore during the day and gathering in the evening for anyone who so chooses. The campground is not far from Cincinnati. There are so many things to see. Possible potluck. Discussion??

Another thing...

I would like for this to be RPOD and FRIENDS rally. We have some wonderful people who have been attending our rallies that own something other than an RPod. Streamers are encouraged to come. Tom,Ella,Terry, and Pat that includes you.

We are booked on site 37 and will arrive on Friday the 21st.

Exit number 175 on I-75 will get you close to the park without driving hilly, narrow, two-lane winding roads.

The park entrance does have a steep climb, but it is easy to navigate.

@furpod. Hopefully someone will decided that they want to be the UnLeader because I am definitely NOT going to be the UNLEADER!!! lol
Tink did such a good job at the Horse Park, perhaps she will be the UnLeader again.
BTW, the UnLeader does not have to be female. How about you?

We are toying with the idea.. but it's going to be a short weekend for us due to her j o b .. thinking about going down to Green River where the "kymooses" are going.. close to home, and we have never been there..

I think it's going to come down to a quick game of roshambo..

Just reserved site #34, 20-23rd.

Green River, especially on the weekend, is a boat/party place.  Maybe late Sept. not so much.  Otherwise we like it.  None of the sites are far from the water.

Problem is, he absolutely loves it, i think.  I also let Sheila know. She said to count her in  and Alan and Carie and they'll probably come. They will keep me posted.

I was talking about Green River 'cause Furpod said they may go there. We liked it except for the crowd that was there when we went.

Our mini rally is looking good!!  Pot luck Friday night??  Coach, I'm ready to try corn hole again.

Oh yeah ~ we need RAIN here!!  Garden is DRY.

It's a http://kentuckystateparks.reserveamerica.com/ky/Green_River_Lake_State_Park/Campground/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=KY&parkId=91813 - state campground over this way, less than an hour away.. kymooses are going to be there, and we are trying to decide which place to go to.. it's much closer, and Sue has to work at least Friday morning..

Green River is a bit of a party place at times, but thats the lake I grew up partying at from Junior High on through High School before I moved to Louisville.  So it has always been a favorite place to go.

The state park is indeed the most crowded and has the most hooplah going on at it, the other 3 campgrounds that surround the area are a quite a bit quieter.  But I like being right on the water via the state campground, the marina is close and if we have a boat it's easy to slide right up to your campsite!

@Sylviablue were you all at the State Park I imagine?

OK, I apologize for the slight hijack that is happening.. but I AM NOT the unleader for the mini-mini!!

LOL..

Pam, we currently have :

Furpod in 126
kymooses in 125 (where we will all congregate for the lake view) Wink (and mixology lessons)Evil Smile
and an un-named nonpod in 128

We may also have a tent camper in our midst.. I have not heard back from her yet..

So come on up! All the water side spots are taken, but as of yesterday, plenty of "interior" spots in the neighborhood.

@Tink. Thanks for the update. We will look forward to meeting them.

@Todd. Thanks so much for posting the pictures. I had forgotten about the lake. It has been quite awhile since we camped there.
We were at Fort Boonesborough State Park for the past 5 days. It sure was lonely without all you Podders. The manager remembered us. He asked if we were ever going to come back there for a rally. The park looks great. There are no signs of the flood that they had before our rally. I must say that the weather this week was MUCH better than when we had the rally. It was in the high 70s and low 80s for the whole trip.

See you in about a month!!!

If you have wood that you could bring for the campfire, it would be appreciated. I made some GREAT fire starters. Found it on Pinterest.
I think there might be a spot to set up tables across street from where we are camped. Not sure. Maybe tbkld93 could tell us since he has been there recently. What is the layout Todd?

There is a lot of room between and behind the even numbered sites (36-40) for tables.  The picnic tables are very heavy so we may have to work at.

Remember to bring 50 or more feet of water hose.  The taps can be far from the site.

What are the plans for the evening meals?

Yes, bring the hoses, we needed 2 50's to get to our tap last time we were there.  Probably could have been done with a 50 and a 25 but a 50 alone would not have reached the spicket!

Thanks for the heads up on the water hoses. How about electrical hookups. Do we need extra for that? While in Michigan, we had to set up in the back corner of our site because the electrical box was up on a sand dune. :(
Concerning the group meal, I have not heard anyone mention it. We could have a hot dog meal on Friday or Saturday evening. For those who do not like hot dogs, you could put a burger on a grill. I think potluck would be nice. Since the picnic tables are so heavy, I think those of us who have a small table should bring it so that we will have somewhere to put the food. Also, if anyone has an easy up perhaps you could throw it in with your other stuff. We never know what the weather will be.
I suspect that we will need light jackets during the day and a good campfire in the evening.

Do we want to start a list of the food that each will bring for the potluck?

I am looking forward to seeing everyone again.

I will be glad to bring 3 packs of hotdogs. Somebody else could bring the buns. When I saw all those packs of hotdogs in Lexington, it seemed silly for 2 people to have 10 dogs!!!Smile

The electric posts are at each site and won't require additional cord.  The water posts are shared and can stretch a very long way.

Saturday night pot luck it is!

We have a table and an easy up.  The long range weather forecast looks great.  Daytime 75 - 80 with lows in the 50's.  Perfect camping weather.

Welcome, Bill. Can't wait to meet you and Marilyn.

And Todd, I might just invite myself to the rest of the evening meals at your camper since the one you were preparing in Lexington looked simply divine! And I don't even like fish!!! LOL

Welcome Bill and Marilyn. We are happy to have you join us. I think you will enjoy the group. We are a collection of people from all areas and walks of life brought together by a terrific little travel trailer.
If you are from the area, perhaps you could give some suggestions as to sights to see and/or festivals in the area.

****DIRECTIONS****

For those of you in need of directions, there are multiple ways to arrive at the park.  Some are better than others.

I recommend everyone exit from I-75 at exit number 175 Richwood.  If coming from the South, you will turn left and follow Richwood Road (338) until it dead ends.  Turn Right and keep following 338 until it dead ends at US 42/127.  Turn left and follow until turning right onto Beaver Road.  The park is on the left side of Beaver road.

Most of this is two-lane country roads, but all wide enough for the Pods.  This route is only 8 miles off the interstate.

If you have any questions, PM me.

We'll be there Thursday and leave on Sunday.  I'll bring some kind of vegetable dish for the potluck.  Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Tink, do you think Ella and Tom will give tours of the Bambi?  We wanted one but it was not in the budget.

Has anybody thought about bringing mustard, ketchup, hot dog relish, onions, chili or slaw for the hot dogs? Oh wait. I'm not the unleader so scratch all that!

Rosemary, is Rick going to bring the cornhole? Shucks, Just can't keep my mouth shut!!

Yes I will see that Rick brings the corn hole game. I can bring relish. When we get there, we can decide how many buns I need to get. I can also do a side dish if we feel like it is needed.
How excited am I getting??? VERY!!
Our daughter and her husband live very near there so they will be coming to see us sometime during the rally.
Henry has all his toys packed. We are afraid to say the word "camping" because he won't stop barking until we take him to the camper.
See some of you on Thursday.

@Tink. And.....since we don't have a leader, you are the official UNLEADER!!

I would like to report that the RPod and Friends rally at Big Bone Lick was a great success. Most are leaving today. We had 5 Pods, 1 baby Airstream, 1 Surveyor, 1 Hybrid, and 3 T@Bs. Nancy gets honor for traveling the farthest (9 hours). Todd and Karen win for the shortest distance (10 minutes). Although they won, there were no prizes.
Our potluck dinner last night was yummy with great food. One of our T@B friends brought his Segway and most, but not all, took a ride. We thought Rick had run away with it, but he finally came back.
The weather was a little nippy last night, but the bonfire kept us warm.
Tink was the Unleader. I don't know HOW she got that honor. lol We got to meet Bill and Marilyn from southcentral KY. Several Pod tours were given.
All in all, a great mini rally.

@ Pepperpod or Mary have most of the rally's went to the FROG rallys now? We have been out of the gang for awhile because our dates always fell on the same time as our trip with the kids to Myrtle Beach. Have just been looking for the rpod gatherings & happen to notice most are all about the rallys with Frog.   Keep us in the loop again on gatherings ,would love to see a bunch of the old gang from the first rally in Kentucky again.  Plan to go to Raccoon Holler this year but are there other ones. Thanks
