My wife and I are heading from Ohio to Yellowstone NP in mid-August. We have an R-pod 171 which we just purchased this month and are interested in your favorite campsites. We like hiking and biking and are not afraid of more primitive sites.

Can we chance going without a reservation?

we took our 178 last year from Minnesota to Yellowstone,  we went through North Dakota, stayed in Medora, ND.  Great campgrounds and then on to Yellowstone,  All the camping places in Yellowstone are great, I would advise reservations

Yellowstone/Jackson Hole area is a "zoo" in mid summer.  Plan ahead. Gros Ventre Camprgound near Jackson very nice. Make res.  Nice spots a day out: Fremont Lake USFS campground just outside of Pinedale, WY. and Sinks Canyon State Park on edge of Lander WY. You can make res.  for either.
