We have a 2018 Toyota Highlander 3.5L  as our TV and I have deliberated for some time as to whether we should use a WDH or simply just an anti sway device.   Up to this point in time I have not established a real need as our towing experience so far has not shown any need to adopt either, although I may change my mind later as we gain experience with this combination.  Incidentally my tongue weight is typically 236 lbs.

WDH’s do not appear to be recommended for uni-body constructed TV’s and I could not find anything in the Toyota user manual or Toyota website that could substantiate this.  So, just for the record, I thought I would check it out with our local Toyota contracted hitch installer and the local Toyota dealership.  Now, I don’t know of any reported issues but would be interested to hear from R-Pod group members on this.

Whoops, I should have said that both the hitch installer and Toyota dealership stated there were no issues with using WDH's as long as tow weights were within their recommended limits.

We tow our RP180 with a Silverado pickup.  I use the weight distribution hitch with minimal pressure simply to control porpoising when going over bumps.  In my opinion the sway control is a must.  Cross winds and trucks passing can create dangerous sway situations that can be hard to get out of.  I am not familiar with the uni-body towing and WD hitch compatibility.  I would assume that it would not be a problem as long as you don't crank a lot of pressure on the torsion bars which could put undue stress on the tow vehicle suspension and body.

Just curious at this stage and am monitoring our trips to date.  I guess I am trying to understand what we really need as weight is a consideration when towing with a 3.5L TV.  I did notice the change when we downsized from our previous 24' 5th wheel trailer and 6.6L Duramax/1 ton truck TV that was as steady as a rock and there was no noticeable difference when adding another couple of hundred lbs of "stuff" that was not really needed.Smile
